So yeah, I kinda configured a server, using the latest nightly. Also it requires a few GRFs: Using This GRF pack + this one I made. And of course, the original GRF files is needed as well. Noted. The inflation system is broken anyway, and I'm gonna use the modified costs newGRF's that changes some costs.
Mostly making terraforming a quite bit more expensive, but everything else should be fine money-wise. Especially since I probably use a smooth but big map for the game. I didn't know Smallhacker played openTTD. :o
And eh, vehicle breakdowns will be off. It get's annoying quickly as soon you have more than ten trains within the same network. Just keep in mind that due the game works with station ratings, it's still worth it to replace outdated vehicles and repair them now and then. Also mapsize is one thing i'm not sure with. I'm considering to go with 512x1024, but I'm not too sure about how good it will be performance wise. I didn't even realize how annoying vehicle breakdowns were until I had them enabled on a single player game. GAH
About the map size, I'd be fine with 1024x1024 or less. Fairly decent computers should be able to handle that, or 1024x512 if that's too much. It seems that things slow down the longer the game goes on, though. Maybe you'll just have to get a general consensus going to find out what everyone's computer can handle. |

Well, part of the problem is with the breakdown system is that it's get broken for big networks. Originally TTD was limited to a few vehicles, and therefore the game had such design restrictions.

Another question I wondered, what version?
The nightly have some interesting additions that might make it fun to play, but the latest stable (which is currently 0.5.0) is probably... more stable. Like I said on MSN, if you provide a link to the nightly and the required files, it wouldn't be as bad.

I have four. One for openttd coop, one for the nightlies, one stable and one for the newhouses branch. I guess it's easier that way as well, as otherwise we would have to make sure everyone uses the same revision of the nightly, which can be a bit tricky. As a list for features in nightly, It's pretty much anything that is green on the roadmap 0.6.0 page. And some minor stuff such as aircraft speed being the same as their real speed, and building of semaphores before a certain year option. That's about it. >>
