Well, not really.

The point is that Nintendo has basically cut off and neutered a lot of functionality from their console which has been used for a variety of large and small things.

The GBA slot was mainly for GBA games and not for things like pokemon/Guitar Hero. You can't expect Nintendo never to update there products because 0.0001% of past games use a certain part of the machine. GBA is long gone. Mourn the loss of the GBA slot and either move on or keep your DS lite.

I still dont get why people say "dsi sucks because it dont have gba sold!111111111111111111", like come on, its past, its time to move on, as well I have my gba:sp for gba games, and I hate playing my gba games on lite(gba cart.s dont go fully in lite, as well d-pad is crap), as well guitar hero is much better on consoles, and pokemon, are someone still playing those? I played blue on game boy and all pokemon games after that are pretty much same thing

*gets out*

Nintendo could easily have kept the GBA slot and alienated no one. I am not interested in the DSi's exclusive features; to me, the DS/DS lite is more functional.

It is actually pretty funny just how incorrect this statement is...

No, the GBA slot had to go due to keeping cost of unit down. Plus it would have been bigger. So no.

They ARE basicly the same thing, but with minor tweeks. But then the same could be said for alot of games. If the games good in the first place then changing to much would ruin it.

Wouldn't have been that much more expensive, and it wouldn't have been that much bigger. And it would've added greatly to functionality.

Also, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Diamond have actually very little in common, as games go. I mean, sure, the very, very base mechanics are the same... But that's really about it. There's a bigger difference between them than, say, Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Why do you people care about the gba slot anyway? There were like, 2 good games for it. =/ (and none of them were pokemon)

I want a game system, not some DS catered to stupid people sucking on nintendo's cock.

If you want pictures, you take a goddamn camera

if you wanna play MP3s, you pick up a goddamn ipod.

"The dsi sucks because I can't play games from an older console in it"

The only reason why the dsi sucks is because you can't run homebrews in it afaik.

I don't really care about not being able to play GBA games on it, I care about not being able to use the DS' features that work by having certain games in the GBA slot.

How the heck did that post add anything to the discusion?

If you don't wanna buy a DSi that OK, but I really don't uderstand why you'd not buy a DSi because (very) very few are (very) very slightly crippled.

Your call I guess *shrugs*

Yet. You could on the jap version using Acekard 2i but it won't work on UK machines (and i'm guessing) US ones.

What about the fact that, 5 years later, it's just a minuscule update that's still beaten by Another Popular Handheld from the same period?

Lack of GBA slot sucks. The excuse "Use your old DS" doesn't cut it. Nintendo shouldn't expect us to buy 2 different DS'. But I'm hardly surprised that they do.

Backwards compatibility can't last forever. If people whining actually got anything done, the DSi would probably still have compatibility with 20-year-old Game Boy games (yeah, remember when everyone bitched because they couldn't play Tetris GB on their DSes? Keep your GB/GBC/GBA around if it really mattered to you!).

The "GBA slot" actually had extra functionality for the DS itself, but it was not often used. Who really gives a fuck that you can't transfer pokémon from one generation to the next? If you really are dependent on it, buy an action replay and cheat those pokémon onto the newer games. Or just keep your old DS (Lite) around for that game, what a concept!

Cutting features in the middle of a generation is the problem - not the fact that they cut them at all. I don't think anyone expects the next Nintendo Gameboy Ultra Thingamajig or whatever to keep GBA compatibility.

The problem is that before the DSi, the DS had a lot of extensibility and you could add extras to it for stuff like Guitar Hero or do the nifty pokemon crap. Now Devs have to decide whether they'll support everyone and be limited in what they can do or support just the DSi gives, or support whatever the DS/DSl can do.

In short, Nintendo's just fractured compatibility and created a nightmare for everyone involved but themselves.

Oh and the AR thing doesn't cut it anymore - Nintendo's updates have meant that unlicenced carts don't work anymore. (At least mostly for the time being - compatibility is very low).

The ram and processer upgrades are handly "minuscule" add to that the DSi shop camera etc it's a big upgrade.

And just in case anybody's bitchin' about the poor camera, buy a real camera etc please bear in mind it's for stuff like THIS and for fun pictures not for serious photography.

Also it's intresting to note that Sony release shitty pointless upgrades and don't get this amount of grief. Slim to psp3000? Anybody?

You weren't around for the shitstorm that happened when Sony axed the PS3's backward compatibility with the PS2?
