Simple discussion thread. Instead of talking about video game that other people made, what about ones that you fantasized about?

If you could make a video game, what would it be like?

A sidescrolling platformer-beat-em-up-shooter-thing with tons and tons of levels and secrets. I want over-the-top graphics, 3D characters/backgrounds/level structure, though it would still be a sidescroller at heart. Something like a cross between DKC and Gunstar Heroes. Hidenori Shoji and Jun Senoue will do my music. It will be sex.

Asphalt Assault
-I'm actually working on this. It's like an oldschool vertical scrolling shooter with cars. Like the old Spyhunter game except it has a Strikers 1945 quality to it.

Story:
After an apocalyptic period in 2075, there was a worldwide decline in technology and cities were destroyed after the earth was recreated by a massive storm. A few larger cities that survived, returned and helped re-build the cities. Over a period of 100 years, civilization returned but history repeats itself.

A strange cluster of crystals has been found inside a meteor probably from the recreation, that can be used in super-weapons. A corrupt government (called the Brahmin alliance) run by it's military corporations is trying to use this as a demonstration of their power over everyone and has gained access to great technologies and war machines. Political leaders commission a dangerous army from regular street thugs to zealous, power-hungry cops. They try to carry these weapons from place to place and make sure no one stands against them.

Beyond that, a large weapon prototype (Samsara Type a100) has been under way for several decades and will harness the power of a majority of this ominous new element. Although it's unarmed, it is believed to have the ability to think on its own. Citizens were decieved into thinking this weapon will protect all the major cities but a few slight changes in the law arouses suspicion to the wary. You must investigate the whereabouts of this new project incognito or otherwise destroy whoever is in your way.

I had 2 ideas for the mode of the game...

Mode 1: 5 selectable vehicles and unlockable stories. Pretty much an Arcade shooter. Very easy to do but limits gameplay.

Mode 2: Custom vehicle that can be built and modified through a money-system; locked items and editable stats which can be earned from completing missions (the required missions) and a challenge mode (the optional missions). Very good replay value but will take alot of patience to complete.

I've also thought of some spin-off versions of this idea...

Asphalt Assault: Higher-power
-You're a new member of the Revolution alliance competing to gain rank for sport. You strive to gain authority and respect from other members but competition looks stiff.

--Players may import progress from the story version which means they can use their earnings and vehicles instead of starting with a weak one.

Asphalt Assault: Hotwire
-Ever since the downfall of the Brahmin alliance, many who have heard of this sought their own adventure. The new global government developed new vast transportation systems allowing anyone from different continents to visit one another. The highways are getting crowded with several new faces popping in every day. You'll never know who is willing to aggress or befriend you. Your choices may change the life another adventurer, it's up to you!

--It's a multiplayer version with a chatroom where players can choose a level to destroy baddies in or destroy eachother to see who has the better assault vehicle. Up to 8 players can join a game and earn ranks.

I have a lot of ideas that I think would make nice games (really, everyone thinks that.. ), but I'll never get to do them... I don't have the time or patience to learn a language like C++ and program a full game.

It's kind of sad, mostly because I would really like to make one of them one day :/

What Xkeeper said.

I always wanted to make a game with a 2D overhead view where you're trying to get treasure in an abandoned mine while being pursued by robots. I tried coding it and got like 3 lines down before giving up. Not to mention I can't draw at all, so the graphics would SUCK.

Everyone wants to make a game that they'll never have the skill to do.

Right now, the game I would/could/should/won't make would involve me and a tear in reality making gaming true to life. I end up having to boost myself from damn lazy to Elite Mario and stopping the Tribe of E-Vile Lords from conquering the major capitals of the world.
It will take one hell of a long time even to reach the first capital due to travelling costs, but that's just going to be nearer to real life.

Meh...not quite a game you'd play, huh?

I have a idea on a game I want to make, but I keep it secret for now. Acmlm board will see a early alpha on it anyway whenever I got around starting. << It will be multiplayer.

Xkeeper introduced me to Kid Radd sometime last year, I don't even remember when.

I stayed up until 4am that night reading the entire thing.

I absolutely, positively loved it.

If there was any game I'd want to see or make, it'd be an actual, working, fully functional Kid Radd game for the NES. That comic is pure awesome; I think that the game would be too.

You might want to check out the NES game "Totally Rad" as the Kid Radd charcther is kinda inspired by the guy in that game. >>

Totally Rad is a pretty odd game, especially the plot sections... there are some similarities to Kid Radd, but they're mostly superficial.

If I could make a game... it would never get finished, for one...

I would probably make a Donkey Kong Country 4 game since a sequel to the third one is probably never going to happen. Instead of having a new kong introduced like 2 and 3 did, I would have the old team of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong back. The gameplay would be pretty much like the first 3 where you get to find Hero Coins as well as Bonus tokens that you get after winning a bonus game.

As for animal buddies, I would bring back Rambi because Ellie was a bad replacement for him in DKC3. Enguarde is a must for water levels. Squitters, Rattly, and Squawks I would throw in as well. Finally, I would create a brand new animal buddy which I'm not sure what it will be.

You should read the Rad Project, or whatever it was (googling for '"rad project" magic john totally rad' might help). It's an interesting discussion about the changes between the US and JPN versions of the game.

But yeah, I'm kind of toying with an idea. I might actually try MMF or Gamemakre for it, depending on which one suits it best.

...brand new animal buddy which I'm not sure what it will be.

A lion could also work. Oh yeah, that gives me an idea for a backdrop.

Humans have discovered Donkey Kong Island!
Well, even if the previous games have them speak in english, those are only because you play as the monkeys. Humans and gorillas don't understand each other, so no speech can help. Although...seeing these animals have built stuff as monkeys and gorillas, they are captured and imprisoned(as a missing link in the evolution chain). So they get taken to New York, where Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong are now imprisoned in steel cages while, apparantly, they're only two left...
...well, DK's had enough. He gets mad, real mad, and breaks the cage that imprisons him, then frees Diddy. Together, they search this new strange rock jungle in search of the rest of the family. Is it possible to find everyone before it's too late?

I talked so much, I missed a post.

I have a very.. active imagination.. And I do mean active, as I never seem to be short on ideas. As such, I took up writing sometime in my early teens and have been doing so on and off ever since, which has been useful in expressing my creativity to some extent or another.

I do have a few game ideas based off the same story I've been trying to write into a proper novel format lately.. but realistically I know it'll likely never come to pass.. It'd be nice though, and I genuinely do believe people would find it interesting even if most people tend to think the same about their own ideas... I just have an especially good feeling about it, since I often tend to do a good job at grabbing and holding a persons attention when I start to tell them my ideas.

Eh well, though..

I disagree. If people wanted to make that game bad enough they would apply themselves to learning how to make it. If you want something bad enough, you'll get it, but just sitting around wanting won't help.

But people are also lazy, so they sit around and want. Even if they're not lazy, they may be working on other projects or be busy with schoolwork.

Problem, of course, being that complex and involving games take an eternity to create by yourself, especially if you're not already an expert programmer.

But yeah, I do have two general concepts for games I'd like to make if I somehow got the chance to design one.

The first one is a fast-paced 2D platform-shooter on one of these recent consoles with two joysticks, where you'd control the guy with one stick and the direction he'd shoot with another. Kind of like Smash TV, just in 2D. The hero would be a great jumper, he'd have the ability to slide (and hurt enemies by sliding into them), there'd be swimming, jetpack and motorcycle levels, massive bosses... what could go wrong?

Second one, well, picture Sonic's speed coupled with Zero's (MMX) sword. Now throw in the wallkick from Gunstar Heroes, some limited guns, grenades and other similiar weapons, and add some rather strict time limits to encourage rushing. Add in some cool Mega Man/Ninja Gaiden style bosses that jump all over the place and have a dozen different attacks, and you'd be all set.
