Basically something like IPB - a small login field near either the top or bottom of the board, so you don't have to click "login" before you can actually log in.

Just something I'm used to, is all. It'd be nice. =P

A quick reply feature would be nice as well. Some board systems have that and when it's there, I barely ever use the normal reply box unless I need to quote someone.

To be honest, I don't see much reason for either of those. I mean, clicking Login or Reply and waiting for the page to load takes maybe a fraction of a second longer..? Unless your connection is slow, or the server the board is on is slow on an off day.. it really shouldn't take more than a second to load. (This reply specifically took 0.038 seconds to render. )

I never saw much point to either of those, since they really just add more clutter and don't save anywhere near enough time to merit the work of implementation. Though, that said, I wouldn't object if these features were added.. I just don't see good reason for them to be. *shrugs*

The Quick Login and Quick Reply would be excellent features...

I would probably use them more often than regular login/reply...

Quick Login sounds alright. I won't use it however because I use cookies to keep myself logged in.

Quick Reply on the other hand doesn't sound like a great feature. It'll probably just encourage people to spam or something.

The Quick login box would be nice, but it would make it easier for your password to be stolen if you ask me.

I just favor a link directly to newreply.php over Quick Reply

That way, the thread is available straight for reviewing new posts (below the post), and some other stuffs. Wooo

Yeah, like I said it would be more secure and probably have fewer bugs also.

I don't have much use for either. Loading the login page is insignificant because I stay logged in, and my password is so cryptic and new that I have to look it up to log in. I tend to think over my posts, so loading the new reply page is insignificant.

Anyway, something I wanted to point out was that the time at the bottom of the page has little to do with the actual time between clicking a link and the page being loaded. Before the timer starts, there is overhead in establashing the TCP connection, sending the request, and loading the PHP scripts(or locating them in the server's cache). After the timer stops there is buffered output that still needs to be sent over the network and rendered by the user's browser. For example, the timer at the bottom says that it took 0.050 seconds to render this page, but I counted almost seven seconds between clicking the new reply link and the reply form appearing on the screen.

I don't like either idea, but at least Quick reply works. >> Why do you need to login fast? If speed is a issue, just be logged in all the time. (Just make sure other people can't use your web browser profile though, such as by setting a password on your OS account)

"Rendering" counts as serverside time -- from the moment the timer starts (shortly after execution) up till when the script is completed (shortly before, uh, ending).

User-side render times are usually quite different, and made especially worse due to this server's location. For me, the delay is low, but noticable.

While we are on the quick reply and such, if you created quick login and quick reply more than likely people would want a quick thread button.

Well, besides the fact that I've never seen a quick thread box, nor have I even heard of a quick thread box...

Peh, they probably exist somewhere.

DSM used to have one on his board. I think Roger made it though, but I am not for sure.

Yeah, and in a poll, while most people used quick reply a lot, they didn't use quick thread very often.
