I recently acquired MSO 2007 and when I first ran it, I thought 'Man, this new tabbed "ribbon" interface is cool and very functional. MSO 2007 is awesome! ' lol.

However, upon opening a new document I realized that they open in a new window. There is no way to open a new document in tabs in the same window, which is counter productive if you ask me, and downright stupid on their part. They should've at least made it an optional feature. Then I saw that there is a plug-ins option.

Are there any plug-ins available to add this feature to MSO?

If I remember correctly, it's been that way for a while now. I can check if you want.

I also highly doubt there's a plugin to do -that-. More specifically, that plugins -can- do that in the first place. Sorry.

Edit: I'm glad to hear you like the ribbon, though. I saw it get a lot of (mostly senseless) flak, but you know... menus and toolbars don't scale very well.

That feature isn't lost yet.

1) Click on the office button, (the big button on the upper left) and click on "Word Options" at the bottom of the menu that pops up

2) Select "Advanced" on the left

3) Scroll down to "Display" section and find the option that says "Show all windows in the Taskbar". Uncheck to disable that functionality

4) When you open multiple docs, they should all now be in one window. If you want to switch between them, either Ctrl+Tab or go to View Tab on the ribbon and use the "Switch Windows" button on the far right of that tab.

I set it up like you described, but Ctrl+Tab just inserts a \t in my document. The rest works as described though.

Note that if you set it up like this, you get MDI buttons next to the Help icon.

Thanks, and although I don't know what the shortcut is, you can change shortcuts in the options and/or you can add a button for it beside the office button, which is what I did. The same concept as tabs and it works perfectly fine.
