I had been an Opera user, mostly for the built-in IRC. But it was running really slow and crashing on me a ton. It even crashed, ironically, while I tried to download Chrome, so I had to do that through Firefox.

I have to say, I love the sleek, minimalistic design, and it's insanely fast. It's a ton better than Opera was, and I think I'll be using it for quite a while.

Did they ever fix that bug where typing in '%' in the address bar crashed the whole application?

(I do believe we had a Chrome thread (in H/S) before...)

I can't even install Chrome! The installer just stalls at "initializing" and never gets anywhere.

For the record, Opera barely ever crashed for me and is as fast as when I first got it.

There is one thing I honestly like about Chrome. One thing that appeals to me: AW, SNAP!

Odd, kawa. I guess I hadn't updated Opera in a while, so that may have been a problem. But the Chrome installation went very fast for me. Dunno what's up on your comp

And Blackhole, I dunno, I'll have to try that later. Still getting used to it, but I like it a ton. And I know there was an older thread mentioning chrome in here, hadn't checked in h/s, though. I felt like a new thread was better than bumping one that's months old

I like Chrome's speed, but until they add extensions/noscript/etc I'll stick with FireFox. Right now I have 26 extensions of which 16 I use regularly and the other 10 I use whenever I need them (most of the latter 10 are site debugging/related for the Fraxy wiki).

Can someone list all the cool features of Chrome? I'm not reading through that awful fucking comic, and I'm not downloading it.

I wasn't impressed when I checked it out a few months back.

It seemed to have a lot of compatibility issues with javascript.

I tried it, but the main turn off was this: No middle-click scrolling thing! I have to drag the scroll bar or move the mouse wheel!

<3 Chrome. Very usable, and quite honestly the UI is perfect. Maybe it's just me, but the available feature-set fits my browsing style, and I've not had any problems with javascript or anything... well, discounting the fact that it completely kills certain ad javascript (but that's nothing to complain about, is it?) because it breaks DOM security

The Resource Inspector is nice too, though view-source was a little buggy last I checked (seriously, it mangled a sourceview on some inline javascript once)

Yes, just tried it and it defaulted to a google search for '%' which is basically what you'd expect Chrome to do on anything that isn't a URL.

I like google chrome, especially how quick it renders pages and stuff. Once they add extensions I'll probably give up on firefox. I also love how each tab is it's own process so if one page crashes you just lose the tab and not the whole flippin browser. Very nice.

I remember reading somewhere that they planned to introduce an FF-like system soon...

While looking for that piece of information, I stumbled upon this, which also seems fairly interesting to me.

Disassembly—converting the compiled machine code to assembler and then attempting to understand the behavior and organization of a program—is a form of reverse engineering, an activity prohibited by the [Microsoft] EULA. Note that the prohibition of reverse engineering is a common feature of software licenses; Chrome's own EULA includes the same prohibition.

...

Of course, this is one area where open source has a great advantage. The inner workings of open source software are available for all to see, so the entire question of reverse engineering never occurs.
Isn't Chrome open-source? So there's nothing to reverse-engineer, it's all there out in the open for anyone to use... why would they "restrict" it if there's nothing to be restricted?

What they mean is that they reverse-engineered Windows to improve something in Chrome.

That's a big no-no.

Yeah, I got that part. What I was referring to was the (now bolded) portion that stated:

Chrome's own EULA includes the same prohibition [against reverse-engineering].
