In a worthless currency

I got it for the novelty, but the actual value of the bills... I could wipe my ass on them, and that would cause them to become *more* valuable than before.

Sell it on for profit.. to some mug who's got no idea about currency!

But seriously, Having that much low money could be useful if your currency crashes... or the other one inflates like a balloon. Convert.. and instant profit!

Hyperinflation, just not for furries!

And it wouldn't be cheaper to get it from a place that isn't Ebay?

Oh wow, looks like another reason to why our economy is faltering has been added to the pile. Hopefully, those bills aren't mass produced...

Actually, part of the reason they're so worthless is because they're mass produced.

Oh and technically those are from before the dollar was revalued on February 2, 2009; old Z$1,000,000,000,000 = new Z$1. The old bills are still legal tender until June 30, so I will have Z$160 real money. Approximately worth $1.20 USD.

Freakonomics is fun.

Dude, that's just insane. I want some Zim-dollars. I wanna be a quad-trillionair . You could probably make more money just making it normal paper again and selling it that way.

Preface: I'm a very, very poor economist, if you can even call me that (you can't)--that is, I know nearly nothing beyond the bare essentials of how economies even work. So those of you who passed Microeconomics 101, please hold your laughter and choke back your rage.

Having said that, I always wondered: in cases of hyperinflation, why don't governments simply stop printing money for lengths of time? Wouldn't this effectively force the money to regain some of its value? Somebody help me out here.

The governments need to pay their bills too. If they don't own the value they have to pay, they have to print new money. That's how inflation comes to be to begin with.

Zimbabwe, where else...

Ten years ago I got 10 and 20 dollar notes from this country. They were worth a couple $US then. Now it's amazing just to fathom how monetarily worthless they are now. That's one small fraction...

If you think the American Dollar is pretty screwed up... stop complaining and move to Zimbabwe. 100 Trillion Dollars gets you THREE EGGS.

I smell a parallel with universal insignificance here. Once you've managed to fathom how worthless those bank notes are, that's still nowhere near.

And that's horrible.

You'd be pretty rich selling a TV there, huh?

Probably not. You'd have to mount quite the unprecedented advertising campaign to get someone there to buy it.

Now, let's be honest. You're not a trillionaire. Not even in Zimbabwe. That is outdated currency, and has been changed. Them zeros mean nothing, not even in Zimbabwe.

Plus, they're probably fake. I got mine at the Currency Exchange.

Mind you, I have millions of Turkish lira. Same sort of deal.

It'd cost too much money to even bother counterfeiting them.

Yes I'm aware that the money was revalued; those bills are now worth Z$160 instead of Z$160 trillion. It's about $1.20 USD or something. None of this I care about. I like the novelty of having real world money in the trillions denomination.

(Sorry I sound short, but I've had this conversation too many times... why is it that everything must have a good hard reason to it and it can never be "just because"?)

Because, if it's that way then no one can totally miss the point! Doing things just for fun confuses people...

Exactly my point for almost everything. Like, I took some of the hottest hotsauce in the world, and was crying on the floor. People ask me why. I say why not.

I also ate this loli-pop with a bug in it (you know, those things). People said eww, why? I say why not.
