So, apparently they're giving the 20-year-old series another title. It's on WiiWare, unsurprisingly.

They're giving all hand drawn graphics and painted backgrounds like Wario Land: Shake it! and I think it looks really nice. I'll definitely plan on picking up this game.

Here's some videos from IGN:

Wow. Never played the original, but I am really liking the art and the music. The gameplay looks fun, too, and like it could have some pretty sweet levels later on. I'll have to look into this a bit more.

The design is beautiful. I haven't played this game for like 8 years, but my brother said this is the only game he's looking forward to this year, so when it comes out, we're definitely getting it.

If the gameplay is better than it was 20 years ago, this game will be an absolute hit, I'm sure

I never really cared for the original all that much, but this one looks very cool. I'll definitely be checking it out...

The original was kinda weird, but I'll have to agree with the common consensus so far -- this does like pretty.

Much better skills interface too, IMHO.

Yeah, even the original wasn't even really appreciated until a while after it's release, and even then, it isn't widely popular.

I can't wait until this is released.

Looks astounding.

I'm going to be looking forward to it, even though I've never really seen the first one on the NES.

You should try the NES version. It could be... inspiring. Or at the very least nostalgic.

I always thought the NES version looked... gritty somehow with it's graphical look and feel.

This sequel looks way more cutish than the orginal. I admit I kinda prefer the new "look".

Heh heh, I just found this out today, though not on this forum. I was going to make a thread til I noticed this. Personally it excites me to see them fixing up the visuals on this game, because as Ailure said the graphics are somewhat jagged and gritty.

So I won't be able to get much out of this post, I'm pretty tired, but OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!! I'm freaking pumped about this! Seriously. This year so far has definitely been the year the developers finally give Wii owners a really good reason to have the console.

**EDIT**
You know, watching the 2nd vid, something popped into my head. With this style of game now possible (really smooth hand drawn sprites), a guy like Don Bluth (Dragon's Lair and Time Warp series) should throw his hat back into making video games. I would love to see his stuff put into a 2D platformer (and I mean a good one, the Dragon's Lair ports for NES and SNES totally don't count)

**EDIT 2**
Oh, and the new Earthworm Jim game should use this style (not art style, game style). I mean the original two games were basically early versions of this, where it was all more "hand drawn" styled sprites.
