My left mouse button is rather... degraded after intensive use. This is the second mouse I've wasted like this. Should I get a new one? Is there something wrong with the way I use them?

I wore out two mice like that myself, and I always blamed it on how I start using it with extreme force applied more at the base than the whole button when I put too much concentration into its usage... it would appear that it wears out my fingers too, although they say organisms differ from inanimate things in how they improve rather than decay through usage.

I've used the same mouse for 4 years, and even though I play tonnes of MMOs, my mouse never has jammed or anything. Although, the scroller all of a sudden stopped working

My old mouse's left click began to stop working.

Then, a few days after that, it died on me so I got a new mouse.

I didn't buy my mouse from a 99¢ store, so naturally it still works.

Neither did I thankyouverymuch.

Chief is constantly surprised when he uses my mouse for whatever reason, comparing it to his own, which has a much lighter LMB.

They're the same model too.

My mouse is currently had some of it's plastic pads underneath worn out, but is still working well enough.

I'm still thinking about replacing it though, since it's fairly worn out. Even if it's still working perfectly.

The button switches on my mouse have apparently developed intermittent contact bounce. Sometimes when I intend to single click, a double click will be registered instead. It is an optical mouse, so tracking is as good as new. I'd hate to replace it, considering that the mouse is still fundamentally useful, and because PS/2 not safe to hot swap, I'd lose a lot of state by closing all the apps I have running.

because PS/2 not safe to hot swap

Nominally safe or not, I've hotswapped it all my life without ever encountering a problem.

Apparently there was cases with hotswapping PS/2 causing problems on older hardware, but isn't really a problem on most hardware (pretty much anything in the last 15 years i guess).

The bigger danger is that the PS/2 connector bends very easily... and manually correcting that is a pain.

I don't give a shit about PS/2 plugin outlets anymore. I just use one of the USB ports in the back of my computer.

Works like a charm.

One of those pads fell off on my mouse a while ago. I think the model is an MX310.

I wore out my old mouse quite badly. The left button double clicked automatically at times, it was that worn out. Then it was quad-clicking before I replaced it.

Currently using a Logitech LX3.. It just does not like a light surface - the cursor jumps around is a drugged up type fashion.

I have a Logitech G5. It works alright except I need to get a mouse pad with a better texture since it hates my desk. I have it set to the maximum weight and the sensitivity on medium, most of the time. I turn the sensitivity down if im doing something precise. I never change the weight, though, because I hate really light mice. I used to have a laptop mouse that was really small but had issues with bumping it off the desk since I'd reach for it and miss and it'd go flying, and I just don't like a complete lack of resistance when im moving the mouse.

Have you tried cleaning it out? Mouses I've used in the past would accumulate dirt between the button and the body of the mouse. Often you can snap the buttons off with a moderate amount of force and figure out what's causing the problem. I'd guess that the pad that springs the button back to an unclicked position is just worn out but you never know, it could just be dirt getting in the way.

There are no "buttons" on this mouse. The top panel just has a small slit with a hole for the wheel and you basically bend the two "legs" down onto the switches to click. Cleaning it out would be a good idea, but unfortunately the screws are hidden under the pads. Those things are a bitch to put back on.
