Let me just say this. The contest is meant to be hard. Very hard, So hard that you HAVE to ask for help. That's how I wanted it. Will that piss people off? More than likely. Should it? Not at all. If people REALLY wanted the rom, they'd ask about it, rather they should.

Is it too hard? No, not if you are actually serious about it. If you get stuck, ask me and I'll help, I have the entire time. If you refuse to ask for help or let me know that you don't understand something, then you must not be too concerned about winning. I can't help that.

Regarding the contest, someone has won but declined the prize. Whoever wins next will get the prize. I don't know why he declined it. Maybe he just wanted to say he won, I don't know. That can only be good you you guys though.

Remember, HAVE FUN. That's what you should be doing. It is a game after all.

That's ... suspicious ...

That was pretty simple. Just had to e-mail him.

Anyway, step 5.

Anyone have a decoder ring?

Edit: And the answer to this step must also be e-mailed.

Edit 2: Ok, I emailed him the answer. After the collective efforts of the IRC channel, we've decoded the message, and it contains a simple instruction. I won't reveal it, though.

Someone should really post it here too.

I have no idea. It could have been wingdings for all I know, but at least the message itself is in English.

Ok, I found a Hylian sylabary. I'll decode it now.

It's not in hylian after all... some characters are in hylian, but others look like a mix of other 2, or modified versions of other characters... So I can't make a logical translation.

Quote Nintales, Shiryu. He's got everything but the Old Hylian phrase in there. I translated the bulk of the text myself, but these other guys beat me to it. Hand translating is fun, but takes time, which the others somehow managed to beat me with...

Did you "email" the answer yet, Drag? Or is someone else going to?

you basically need the Hylian font, or a whole lot of free time, in order to translate everything. In other words, its not true Hylian. *rollseyes* Anyway, I'm stuck at what the meaning behind what the "Old Hylian" text is referring to...emailing the translation isn't good enough.

Anybody have any clues as to what it would mean?

Well, the instruction says to translate that phrase in English and email him what it says. It doesn't say anything about trying to find the meaning behind it, so I emailed him what it said.

And yes, I've sent the email already.

You guys realize that this is all just fucking with you, right? You'll have to keep jumping through hoops and will never receive a copy of this prototype rom, since the guy doesn't even have such a thing.

Actually, it wasn't so difficult to figure out the text by hand. I had the first five words of the big paragraph translated in my head within one minute of looking at it. Writing it all out and creating a key for the cipher took the most time.

I still think hard work owns finding a key somewhere on the internet, though...

And Kasdarack, I only did it because I like a good cipher challenge. If it's real, then cool, if not, I feel accomplished because I figured out the cipher.

Well, the step say that, but when he sent me the image, he provided extra instructions:

"Tell me the meaning of the attached image. There is a question, a hint, and a
clue within it. Can you figure it out?"

Basically his reponse to my translation was that I translated it but didn't solve the step.

He hasn't responded to my Sheik theory yet (Old Hylian question -> OoT or MM -> Shiek hiding information from Link and would be a freak appearance of Zelda in itself)

EDIT: I found various Hylian pages on the net, and downloaded the modern from hyrulerealm.guardianarchives.com and the Old Hylian from a link on Omniglot. Old Hylian took the most time to figure out since I was under the impression it was "true" Old Hylian.

I'd hate to assume since I'm not him, but I'm mostly doing it for the challenge anyway..even though some of it is too vague to solve without lots of hints, lol.

Megatrooooooooooon!!!!!

AKA most of you guys must be really bored or something. I can't believe this thread is even 8 some pages.

I can't wait for someone to finally win this so we can all continue on not having a prototype rom!
