I hope this ROM is real, otherwise I will be really disappointed...
I didn't enter the contest, sadly |

In that case, the answer is, unsuprisingly, bullshit. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

Posted by Dr. Mario Well if you look in the image, there are some letters, I think these may be another question that leads to another answer. But I can't seem to piece it together. It's worth trying to win the contest just in case. |

Good Eye, that doesn't show up in Zelda DX, so it is either from the original game or it has been added. Now the real pain in the ass is going to be figuring out how to piece it together. I plan on getting this right, an sending it to him with different e-mails, just to fuck with him. I'll let everyone else know what I find out too, so he can just get an insane influx of people that figured it out lol. |

Flurry #&postrank& That's the "Please look up the manual for details." from Zelda 1's intro ...
It's slightly different in this ROM, but like the rest, it's corrupted data I copied it into Zelda 1 (after removing the excess garbage, so it could line up properly) and got this: Nice try, but that's not it ... ____________________ |

Yeah, I figured that it was probably from the original. Well, I scowered the damn thing byte by byte in a HEX editor and found squat, so I either missed something, it's hidden in the unicode jumble when you open it up with a text editor, or this dude is fulla' shit. |

I sent them an email with the rom, AND an analysis based on what I know.
Here it is: To Project Zero/Ratedo Hello, I am sirhax0r, and I have the answer to the question. The answer to the question: "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was considered odd because of the inability to obtain the Triforce, or so it seemed. Many rumors can be found on the internet explaining how to obtain the Triforce. My question for you is... where is the Triforce located?" is: "The Golden Land". However, inside the 7z file is "z3protorom.nes" which does NOT run in any emulators, even if you try fixing the rom. Plus, the rom seems remarkably similar to a bad dump of the original "Legend of Zelda". By viewing the rom in a tileviewer, I discovered that there were many traces of the original Legend of Zelda rom, with and extra added bit to the logo inside the rom, the letters "DX". Therefore, the rom in question is probably either a fake, a hack, or a very strange prototype. I think I have answered most of the available questions, and have attached the rom inside the 7z. -sirhax0r P.S. By answering these questions, have I won the prototype's rom image? However, they still haven't sent me a reply. ____________________ Love your lawn. |

Posted by Nyletak More like "Shittiest Attempt at tricking people to believing something incredibly stupid of 2007" Seriously, watch me find a corruptor, jumble up SMW and add some gfx from Super Mario 64 into it and release it in the internet as "Super Mario World 1985 beta lololo" ____________________ |

This might sound kinda' strange but hear me out.
I'm not sure how locked .7z's work but what if the file required multiple codes? As you remember, the first aswer we heard of was "thegoldenland" but now we have a new question, where is the triforce in OoT? Well, that's "thesacredrealm". There could also have been one another clue released before we found out about it. I'm saying that the proto is real (we've already proven that it's a fake) but that we might need to unencrypt more to get a playable ROM. Maybe "thegoldenland" just unecrypts one part of it? I going to see if this works, this was just a thought I had when I woke up... ____________________ |

Go ahead if you want. A lot of times it is probably better to just ignore these things after they've been proven bogus though.. Some guys just get off on getting attention, negative or otherwise, as attention of any kind is a good thing to them.. |

This is the witch hunt to end all witch hunts, at least recently in the emulation world.
Why can't people just let this hoax die? |

Flurry #&postrank& I took another look at the ROM file, specifically the byteswapped data at the start before the corrupted Zelda 1 hack ...
Sometime last year, there was another fake proto ROM that had this "ZELDA III" title screen and said "it is a fake" when you press anything ... well, the above data is exactly that, parts of the ROM Or more precisely, the whole data up to Zelda 1's header would be, in this order (after unswapping): - $0000-0005 (part of the header) from the other fake proto - line break (0D 00 0A 00) - $0100-04E7 (some ASM and the title screen) - more line breaks - $5000-500F (last tile in CHR data: "F") - some more line breaks Someone should send him that and see what happens this time ____________________ |
