If he told one person, via a hint, that they were on step 4 and another saying they were on step 2, either they are conflicting hints or the information that both of you submitted somehow pertained to the both and somehow (maybe) ties everything together? Well, anyways, since my logic was based off of that hint and you received a similar response (yet step 2 instead), then that means my idea is wrong... So, maybe if you two could post (I you likely already did) what you exactly e-mailed to okibi in order to receive such a response, perhaps we can come to some conclusion then?

Okay, here's the way I see it:

Five steps five hints is the clue, right?

A few people e-mails Okibi about this, and were told they were on different steps.

That means they were talking about different things, and were thus, working on different steps.

..Basically, it's kinda obvious that what needs to be done is to find these little extra hints okibi gave us, solve them, and put them together the right way to get the answer. I mean... Don't you think that with the 5 steps being our 5 hints, each step contributes something to the answer?

Now I gotta look back at all the steps to see if any extra hints were given...

Once again, Gzila comes through with another awesome hint!
Posted by "Gzila"
"Anyways, the numbers are just there to
tell you that you aren't where you think you are. The Wrong is telling
you that you are over thinking everything. The question refers to
putting the steps together in your head."

The latest hint I got from him. All I've thought about so far is in the first part (question), its pertaining to 5 steps, 5 hints, something that we've been trying to put together. the "wrong" we've also been overthinking it. so where would the numbers fit..I know from xkeeper's post that the numbers really don't mean anything, since they kept changing.

So we're overthinking everything?

Also, I'm not sure how Gzila keeps getting these hints, but they're pretty good.

I've read that before, but I couldn't make sense of it. So, the numbers are there to tell us we aren't where we think we are? And that is supposed to make sense...

"5 steps 5 hints"

So, if there are 5 steps and 5 hints...and since the number 5 is to tell us we aren't where we think we are, thus we aren't on step 6, then what step are we on?

Edit: So, technically we would still be on step 5. Because if we aren't on step 6 and it says we have 5 steps (not 6) and we have 5 hints...which technically doesn't make sense cause we have 6 hints? Ugh...

No no...

"Anyways, the numbers

As in "Wrong. You're on Step (number)"

are just there to tell you that you aren't where you think you are.
The Wrong

As in "What Step are you on? Wrong."

is telling you that you are over thinking everything.
The question

As in "all you need to do is answer one single question..." (pz page)

refers to putting the steps together in your head."

I'll see if I can think of anything, but perhaps the answer is as simple as reorganizing the letters?

5 steps - there are 5 letters in the word "steps"

5 hints - there are 5 letters in the word "hints"

I'm really trying to think simple and I think this is the most simple I've thought so far...heh...

Ok, the 5 previous steps that we completed? We need to put them together.

Posted by Drag
I think step 1 was split into two parts.

Step 1: The zip file / extracting the rom.

Step 2: The rom itself, discovering it was a fake.

Step 3: This page, where you had to enter the url for the next step.

Step 4: This page, where you had to email okibi, explaining the quote and the image. Just telling him what they are, pretty much.

Step 5: This image Decyphering this image, and answering the question, and explaining how there's "dummy" info in the image that was useless.

So how do we put these together?

Also "Zelda freak knows more than he tells" wasn't important to solving step 5, but I guess it actually IS important as a hint.

Hmm... did Zeldafreak obtain the zelda 3 proto (rom or cart)?

Well... boiling down each step to 1 word...

Step 1: Extract/Unzip
Step 2: Discover/Fake
Step 3: URL
Step 4: Email/Image
Step 5: Decipher

Go ahead and see if you can make something of this "Data"

Those are the five steps (nice of you to summarize them for us ), now we just need the 5 hints... I know that okibi put hints on the site addresses, but what hints did he give for step 1 and 2?

Edit: Maybe if we look at those (simplified) 5 steps and pair them with their corresponding hints, maybe this will make sense?

Step 5's hint is almost certainly "Zelda Freak knows more than he tells".

As for the other steps...
I started looking at the rom itself as just a symbolic representation of the zelda 3 prototype, kinda like how a picture represents something.

I'm thinking the hints aren't necesarilly what is literally given on the page, but the hint could be the way we solved the step, or just a specific way we had to consider the step.

For example, with step 4, all we needed to do was describe the image and the quote. That's it. We didn't need to connect it to anything, or find some kind of deeper meaning, we just had to email Okibi with a small description. So I'm thinking the hint for step 4 could possibly be that we ultimately need to email Okibi to complete the contest.

So, instead of "5 steps 5 hints" you're proposing "5 steps 5 methods"?

That makes a lot of sense, Zeldafreak has the rom, which would be "zelda freak knows more than he tells".

The only way to do that is to create an account of ratedo forums, PM him. He didn't include his email thats the only way.

My college's servers are being upgraded today. I may not be able to access my email until 7 PM tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to access it earlier than that, but I can't access it at the moment. Basically, I won't know if my "does Zeldafreak have the prototype?" answer is right or not until later.

Figuring his email would be "zeldafreak@ratedo.com" I mailed my answer there. I verified the address by using The Way Back Machine. Unfortunately the mail got returned to me, so I don't think that's it.
