The post was here ... but that was in August 2005 for a previous contest, so I don't think that's it

But I'm just as clueless about the answer ...

You can email me for the time being at ratedo@bluebottle.com

Doesn't it just say we have to translate what it says and then email it to him? It doesn't say anything about figuring out what or who Zelda Freak is...

Unless you received the email for step 5, this is going to be extremely difficult and confusing.

In the original email, he said that the image (with the Hylian in it) contains a question, a hint and "something else".

Just in case you guys skipped over it.

Edit: And for reference, this is the image.

These two items (the image and my quote to myself) pretty much make up step 5's email.

Edit: I just examined the image in a hex editor, but there's nothing notable. (Other than that the image was created with The Gimp )

Edit: I also examined the source code of the email, and again, nothing notable. Just your average plain text email with image attachment.

However, maybe my answer has something to do with this step? It conveniently appears under Okibi's email, since it's a reply.

I basically just said "I am Error" is a quote which just informs the player of this person's name, because later on, someone tells you to go talk to Error about something.

And then I said that the picture was Princess Zelda from Minish Cap. The shield she's holding is a shield she won in a contest. She gives the shield to Link, and it becomes the sheild you use during the first part of the game.

Hey maybe the answer on the page that the updates about the proto game is on. . . .

Yo look on the ratedo page about the prototype. There is a image, although its fake, it may help in some way.

I think I have it. I think zelda because she didn't tell Link that she won the shield, making it seem that he won it.

Or the owl guy from links awakening. He tells you stuff. BUT its just the basic things.

Well, I emailed the zeldafreak from rated o to see if he had any info, also a dude from some Zelda Freak website that came up on google. No response yet. But I should point out that when I translated the mesage, it wasn't all cut and clear. The image I attatched show how it was directly translated, and may contain some clues. (NOTE: the letters in red, there are always 2 of them, equal 1 Hylian symbol, the letters in blue are not directly translated, but the only letters that fit in place) Also Okibi may know some Japanese (I'm not for sure, but I remember reading something a while back that pointed to this), so there's the possibility of some coded japanese text, but again, I'm not for sure.

Yo I think you right. I emailed that to him. To see if the something else is the japanese in the phrases. He said you tell me, so that could be it.

I think I should note that when I was first translating the message I was under the impression that it was all in Japanese, which is what Hylian is originally..but none of it was making any sense. I decided to find a font for easier translation, and found that it was a simple letter swap. Then working on the Old Hylian I did the whole thing in Japanese and got random stuff like flowers and lotus, and an impulsive apprentice, but after finding the 2nd font it was yet another letter swap.

Its interesting to note that the first character in the Old Hylian message has nothing to do with Old Hylian itself, but is actually in the shape of the Japanese Katakana 'ri'...which for some reason was included in the Old Hylian font. So I highly doubt any of this message was intended as Japanese.

Uh oh! I don't know if this is a hint or what, but...

I sent Okibi an email, in an attempt to get moving. Pretty much, I linked step 4 and 5 together like this:

Error knows more than he tells, that's why he tells you his name. He has some information you need to get later.
Zelda wins a shield in a contest.
Zelda freak knows more than he tells.

So basically I linked them together and asked if Zelda freak won something in a contest, and do we need to contact him?

Okibi replied to me, saying that if we do manage to contact ZeldaFreak, please let him know, as ZeldaFreak stole something from him, and Okibi hasn't been able to contact him in a year.

He didn't tell me my response was wrong, but he also didn't say it was correct. What do you guys think?

Edit: Also, my spam filter almost didn't let this get through to me. I'm glad I check that thing. Okibi's now on my allowed list, so his stuff won't be potentially blocked again in the future.

Or he could mean that Zelda Freak actually did steal something from him . Some things really should not be taken out of context. Zelda Freak could be the King of Hyrule. You never saw him talk at all until Windwaker. And he always knows more than he tells.

His one and only post was a month later (when the board was opened) about the August 2005 contest being canceled, apparently it was his and he left staff that month (but it was canceled for other reasons) ... not sure if it's related to the answer, but it could be a hint

More to the image than comes to mind?

What else could possibly be in the image?

We were able to decypher the message, which was written in Hylian. Hmm...
Does that mean that you can take Hylian messages from the games and translate them and decypher them to English too?

As long as you make sure to go through the Japanese step first. There's actually an FAQ on GameFAQs doing that for Wind Waker, and it's probably possible for Twilight Princess (supposedly people have translated a few signs). It's unlikely that it'd work for Ocarina/Majora's Mask, though. Too blurry.

Apparently, old Hylian is basically a cypher for Japanese (specifically Katakana), except there are no special marks to indicate voiced syllables and such. This is used in the n64 games.

Modern Hylian is another cypher for Katakana, used in Wind Waker, but this time, there are those special marks, so you can actually cypher each Katakana syllable.
