Hey, I've been following the rumors about this for a while, and now Okibi from www.ratedo.com is holding a contest (Project Zero), and the grand prize is a copy of the ROM. On the contest page, there's a link to the original article, and at the bottom of that page is a link to the zipped file, only it's password protected with the answer to the Project Zero question. I almost have the correct answer, the answer is another name for "The Sacred Realm". Any help?

***EDIT*** Wikipedia says "The Golden Land", but it won't work, or the file's corrupt. I gotta go to work, but I'll investigate more later. But if anyone finds out more...

There does seem to be something odd with the .7z, as I get different results when I make one myself and enter the wrong password for extracting (or the archive itself is password protected, not the file) ...

If someone does get it right and makes the ROM publicly available, that should be interesting

Hopefully It's not, Ailure...

If I could find the file, I'd work with it and see what I could do...

That would be it (here):

I'd like to see how close I was for the title screen, actually, as that's what I originally started this for

This looks like a fake, the graphics seem to have been taken from various other games like LTTP and the GBC Zeldas...

hmmm... I can't seem to get into the .7z file. I really think it's just a fake . If they really have the rom, they wouldn't give it out so people could download it and find a way to break in. If the proto exists, they own it.

Duh, that's because those screenshots are from Acmlm's homebrew.

That's the ROM I also "leaked" as Zelda III on emule to see if it would get any press coverage. Although with a much earlier version.

It's really convincing. There are even extra tiles to fool even a rom hacker. Pretty sly of you to release it Ailure.

Well even if it is Ace's Homebrew.. I can't figure out the password on it.
"where is the Triforce located?" is the question, but there aren't that many possibilities toward an answer to that question.. so without it being obvious, he must have thrown in an obscure reference or choice of words or.. something. Might actually be easier to crack the password protection on the file, but I'm too lazy for that.

Nope, that didn't work, neither did "The Golden Land"...

Hmm, I've had several sources say this is were it was (A debug "final temple" never put in the game). Oh well.

*tries "thegoldenland" as his first guess and gets in*

Eh. It appears to be just an old "Zelda DX" Zelda 1 hack with some extra garbage data thrown in. Or at least the only tiles I recognize in there are from that Z1 hack, the thing won't even run...

I tried "skytemple", "sky_temple", "SkYtEmPlE", and "5ky73mp13" with no luck.

*still tries various versions of spellings of "Sky Temple"*

EDIT: Nevermind, got it...

EDIT2: Nope, neither FCE nor NEStopia will play it

Seems to be the Z1 rom that's randomly corrupted.

I mean, close where the header is there's a few letters that hardly looks like they belong in a NES rom. And the iNES header is sort of there, just mangled.

Edit: Or at least, the header is later in the ROM. It looks like there's crap before the iNES header for some reason. Weird... if this is even a real ROM at all.

Odd, that must have been the one variation on "Golden Land" I didn't try.. I feel kind of silly, but eh.. Interesting though, I wonder what the hell this file really is, if anything at all? It really does just seem like a jumbled mess..

Fake... SOOOOO Fake.

Like if you needed proof to begin with.
I'm totally sending this dud an angry e-mail. That shit is just too stupid for me to let it slide.

*Edit* I meant "dude" not "dud" but I'm going to keep the typo, because it's soooo fitting.

Well, this better not come up on slashdot or digg. If it does, please anyone debunk it. :/

I mean, it's obvious that this guy is just looking for web traffic to his site now.

Even the machine code isn't proper. :/ There's random useless bytes here and there.

Suprise! The guy's been full of bullshit since day 1. This is nothing suprising.
