I would rather see a AoE2/FreeCiv/TF2 tournament of some sorts.

But I'm biased, since I'm good in those games. Especially TF2.

I suppose we can play against eachother if some people have a downloaded version of TF2?

This is madness. Like hell I am going to play TF2, out of all games, against Ailure, who has played it nearly 24/7 for months now.

That would make it a cheap win, which is hardly any better than a cheap loss.

I take it you're a sore loser?

So am I. Or can be. But it might still be fun.

I disagree. It is clearly much better because you win.

No, not quite that.

I just recognize that there's an amount of difference in skill at which death is immediate and permanent, and the game becomes not fun because you can not make a difference and might as well watch TF2 videos on Youtube.

Say that to Blizzard or some other company then who shut down a player account for some game until year 9999 or something because he cheated or whatever.

Cheating is different, cheating is super lame

But anything inside the game is fine.

"I never really was on your side."

(That said, TF2 is farly easy to learn how to play. But I play a legit version of the game and come on... it's only 20 USD now!)

Sorry, no TF2

My laptop can't run the Orange Box.

I even have the DVDs right here.

And I am sad.

There's some ways getting TF2 and similar games to work on crappier hardware.

...unless you laptop REALLY sucks.

Tyty how old is your laptop? Seriously, Half-Life 2 took good specs when it came out, but this is far after that, and the engine hasn't evolved much since then.

Well keep in mind there's pretty much four active generations of the Source engine. It's roughly something like the following:

Half Life 2 [Supports DirectX 7-8?]
Half Life 2: Episode one (This is the generation some pre-OB games belong to as far I recall, such as Counterstrike: Source). [Supports DirectX 7-9]
Orange Box (HL2: Episode 2, Portal, Team Fortress, Day of Defeat Source, Garry's mod) [Supports DirectX 8-9]
Left 4 dead [Dropped support for DirectX 8, DirectX 9 only]

A common trick to get Orange box games running on crappier hardware is to force DirectX 8 mode on them. Defiantly the first thing I would try too. The L4D generation dropped some cvars (such as mat_picmap which controls texture quality.... why?), while Orange Box added a few neat ones (like the infamous mat_queue_mode that enables/disables multi-threading).
