Okay, this is completely pwn. I will cover why on a point-by-point basis.
  • It is from Earthbound.
  • The announcement starts with the best mini-Q-and-A of all time.
  • It has a nifty effect.
  • It is balanced in quite possibly the coolest way ever -- being hard to notice when the effect ends.
  • It is the coolest possible item to be balanced this way, because the result of not noticing the effect end is being shot in the face.
  • It is from Earthbound.
  • Jewish Kirby.

Skreeny.

Earthbound is the single greatest video game ever made, so don't feel ashamed of being excited about another item from it being present in Brawl.

My own fanboyism aside, I'd like to say that it's cool that they're starting to show us some game-specific items like the Franklin Badge and the Pitfall, as opposed to non-game-specific items like the Bumper, Crates, or Smoke Bomb.

In addition, I'm hoping that the Franklin Badge will suggest that Ness is going to stay as part of the playable roster, or perhaps that someone else from Earthbound or the Mother series in general (Flint you say?) might make an appearance as a character.

Hell, Heavily-Armed Pokey would be a great boss fight.

Oh blast. That's not fun. I love projectiles..
Most people I've played fall for the splat in the face tactics.

As a samus player, I can just say suck it up and learn to vary your tactics more. The franklin badge doesn't last forever. A character's projectiles are generally best used supplementarily anyway.

I have missed alot. Okay, all at once.
Ike - Damnit! This lowers the chance for Marth, although the specials are different, so this means he's probable, and definately a much larger chance than Roy.
Pit's final smash - Made of awesome.
Smokebomb - You know, now that it's there, it has me wondering why it wasn't sooner.
Badge - Kickass, Squash Monster said all anyone would need on the subject.
Pitfall - Awesome, see smokebomb.
Overall, this is looking good, as long as Marth is announced, I'll be happy.

Marth is probably in. I mean, he's the original lord, and Ike looks like he plays very differently.

Someone on /v/ brought up a good point. If Young Link is in, his final smash ought to be Fierce Diety's Mask.

That would be pretty cool to see. Fierce Deity was awesome to use in Majora's Mask. Too bad he was only for bosses. Though I do recall that trick that allowed you to use him anywhere...

That's a damn good idea Alastor.

I really hope they do it.

Because they completely dropped the ball when they made Link's final smash not bombos.

Wow. That's incredibly unique.

Makes Pikachu's presence as a free agent a bit odd, though, unless you rationalize it that Pikachu/Jigglypuff are wild ones.

On /v/, we're figuring that the fact he isn't called Red means alternate costumes are different trainers.

Well, if they want to keep it the hero only, 4 colors = 4 generations = 4 trainers. Unfortunately, it seems a bit more plausible that they'd just be palette swaps (that could in a flash of brilliance be called Blue, Yellow, and Green); at any rate, having a character called Red who was covered in green would seem just a bit silly, and "Pokemon Trainer" is a color-neutral name.

As much as I'd like to see Wes (from Colosseum) show up, I know that's essentially impossible, no matter what they do.

Well, also, calling him Green would be wrong since Green is "Gary", for example (well he WAS Blue...you know, way to go localization inconsistancies )

Wes from colloseum would be cool, but, as you said it is so unlikely D:
