If they do make a CD I wish they'd make a full soundtrack. The Smashing...Live! CD was great but there were so many good songs not played.

You know, the best player in the world is not Japanese.

Just throwing that out there.

Also, they don't play with items.

So.

You know, I don't understand why some people don't play with items. That's one of the ways Smash Bros sets itself apart from other fighting games. Does not playing with items prove that you don't needed them? Are you just reasserting yourself? I play to have fun, not win tournaments, etc. and items make the game much more fun.

The thing is, in a tournament environment, items are disallowed for a key reason - while there is a lot of skill to be had in using items, ultimately, the random selection and placement makes the game a too swingy - that is, it can cause rapid reversals of momentum that untimately cause the better player to lose. As you can imagine, in a tournament environment, where the general object is to decide who is the better player, this sort of thing is not well-appreciated. In other places that use the same rulesets, items are also not on, as practicing with items off is better than practicing with items on when you're going to be playing in matches where items are off. Others simply find itemless matches to be more fun.

In casual matches, though, most tournament players may question item use, but will still happily play with items on. I enjoy using items, personally, though as a player who fights against mostly tournament players I do a lot of playing without items.

I guess that does make a lot of sense. Look at the comparison between Time and Stock matches. In a Stock match, to win you have to be the last person standing. But if it's a Time match, you can run and avoid the best player and still potentially win. It's a cheap tactic and that's why I think Stock is better but I'm not about to fuel a Time vs. Stock argument. Point is, I understand where you're coming from and it makes sense now that I've heard it from someone who foes tournaments more that I do.

I think the issue is that with stock, if it's more than 2 players at a time, you have a better chance of winning by dodging the good player than you do if it's a time match. After all, in free for alls, everyone will be fighting each other; if you have 4 stock left while someone better than you has 1, you'd better win.

Meh. I prefer sticking to casual matches, anyway. I know I don't have what it takes for tournaments.

I know that, I'm not an idiot, I was just remembering the audience reaction to new features at the starcraft II unveiling in Korea, they were on the edge of their seat for every subtle addition.

also, just because people don't use items in tournaments doesn't mean they NEVER use ANY items.

just like speratic movement can confuse opponents in previous installments in the series, this item will be the same in Brawl

@firepheonix: the problem with items in tournaments is that they are too random, allowing too much chance for victory from luck. Furthermore many items cause too much damage, can be exploited, or are considered just plain cheap. Never-the-less there are plenty of weapon masters, and there is nothing wrong with that. Personally I play with a high amount of melee weapons like the laser sword. This way all combatants have equal chance but you still have more options. As far as stock vs. time, why not play bonus (e.g. the way the game calculates your score in arcade mode) that way you are penalized for running away from the fight and rewarded for being in the fray

Okay seriously now what item does too much damage? The only cheap items are the health restoration items, really.

The head of a hammer once it has fallen off. Since it then becomes a projectile, and much more deadly as a result.

Meh, those items are always unreliable, as they always have the opportunity to cancel whatever they're doing and catch it. You have to be pretty close to nail someone with it for sure, and they have to not see it coming... But if that's the case, you're probably better off with a traditional combo.

Edit: this is the best idea I've ever seen

The final smash doesn't seem that powerful from the screens but I'll probably eat those words when I can 100% damage done to me by it.

And Alastor that is one of the best ideas I've seen. I've got to try that some time.

That falcon punch match was awesome. Really shows how simple a game can be and still be cool.

I tried the Falcon Punch match with a friend and it was funny to watch. He'd never used C. Falcon and I do.

I love pwning people using Pichu or Jiggilypuff, because most people only have experiance against people like C. Falcon, Ganondorf, Mario, Roy, Marth, ect. So they have absolutely no idea how to handle the raw speed of both characters. But, my favorite character last game was Roy, as that is my name, and he also pwns Marth. Since Ike is in, Roy must be in as well. Good thing, right? About the debate on who could leave, I am sure of Dr. Mario and probably the Ice Climbers to leave. Dr. Mario is almost useless, and Ice Climbers are kinda weird. Plus it is cheep using two items at once.

... On a point by point basis.... Falcon and Marth are faster than Pichu. Jigglypuff isn't fast at all. Also Jigglypuff is generaly considered better than Ganondorf, Mario, and Roy, so if anyone's surprised at you using them, they suck.

Roy is generally considered a worse Marth - he's got worse power, he's got worse speed, he's got worse range, he's got a worse wavedash... Only thing he has going for him is he's a bit heavier.

The smart money says that Ike is replacing Roy as the FE character, as Roy was a crappy clone and it makes more sense to keep Marth, as he was the original, and clones suck.

Dr. Mario is better than Mario. Like, almost strictly better.

Ice Climbers are wierd, sure, but they're awesome. Very good. And using two items at once is not cheap in the least.

So... No.

Since Alastor covered all the stuff he covered...

Ike's presence would tend to suggest Marth's presence, not Roy's. Marth was the iconic Fire Emblem character; Roy was put in merely to advertise their newest game. As much as I like him and would enjoy seeing a Luigi-esque evolution of his character, he's not terribly likely.

Suggesting that characters be removed because you feel they suck is a terribly shortsighted viewpoint.

Ice Climbers seem gimmicky enough to stay in, I'd hope. They need more weird characters, not less.

Then again, I want Game & Watch to stay in (come on, he beat people up with a TURTLE!), so take it how you will.

Also: I love Dr. Mario. His black costume especially.

Wait, Marth is more powerful than Roy? I thought Roy was actually a little stronger, but Marth's attacks were strongest with the tip of the blade and Roy's were with the center. Which is practically the same thing as Marth being more powerful, but not quite there.

Actually, that seems to be a theme with Marth vs. Roy. Roy has something going for him, but some little detail about Marth completely pwns him.
