Hello.

I've been on Youtube lately, and seen a number of Super Mario Kart hacks, as the topic title implies, so I've been wanting to get my hand at it as well. To be more specific, I've wanted to do something on those lines for a long time. Now I've seen the program before that can edit the tracks design, but thats not where I have questions.

1. How can I go and edit pallets/tiles/sprites in a Super Mario Kart ROM? This would include character tiles, and track tiles as well.
2. This is something that's really bothering me by the lack of knowing: How can the other 7 racers path be changed to follow a custom course, and get rid of Lakitus "reverse" thing as well.

Hope these questions can be answered. Thanks.

Check out our notes, they contain the location of graphics and color palettes. Driver graphics aren't compressed, the rest is.

And MAKE (official site, English download) is currently the only SMK editor that lets you change the AI and more.

Thanks. What tile editor would be best suggested?

It's been so long that I did hack related things, I got kind of nooby again. Pardon the dumb questions.

Was that referred to me? I opened it easily. It suggests Tile Molestor, but I'm not sure if Tile Layer Pro or YY CHR would be best for a beginner, based on others experience.

:x

He's a Mac user, so opening a CHM natively is a no go, unless there's some CHM to HTML converter out there.
But yeah, googling would've probably eased up on that too, heh.

I'd say its preference. I prefer YY-CHR but Tile Molester is also highly recommended.

I'm guessing that the Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies isn't correctly registered as a file is missing or is invalid.
You should try this page.

Thanks, helped me a lot.

Probably the most cliche of things, but just messing around.

And a question: How can I map out the pointers for the CPU to follow? Can't seem to find anything.

Actually it was not about the fact that I can't read CHM files, but about the why it is in this format. Simple TXT files are fine for this kind of information...

Unless you have images or specific page layout, which RTF does...

Hello everybody ^^

I've worked on a SMK hack lately but had some problems, i contacted Stifu and he told me it was better to post my questions here to have more answers

Here i go

- is it possible to change the speed of the GP and have instead of 50cc 100cc 150cc : 100cc 150cc 200cc or more , and without changing the speed on the other modes (Battle Time trial, match race) ??

-is there any known ways to change music in smk ?

(here are some screenshots of my hack at the moment if you are interested in it :

Best Regards,

ScouB

How about being patient and waiting for an actual response?

The title screen looks nice, however if you want some feedback you should post screenshots of your tracks, there's not much feedback to give on your screenshots.

By the way, even though there are now 4 (!) Super Mario Kart editors (if you count mkEdit), strangely I haven't seen yet any "complete" hack with nice track design (though someone posted in romhacking.net some pics of a promising project).
