these days

You're growing old. One of these days, you won't be able to discern your computer from a water closet anymore either.

I can hardly wait.

Hey, I'm not trying to insult you here. There's lots of reasons the whole staff and 90% of the regular users might blend into each other; maybe you just attract/select people extremely similar to you, or maybe you all just have trouble expressing yourselves. I'm just responding to the thread with one of the major reasons I, personally, don't find this board as appealing as I used to. I'm sure you don't want me here anyway, but I'm guessing a lot of other people are put off by the homogeneity as well.

Well, excuse me for not expecting you to try making a serious point after everything, or being particularly wary of taking what you say without several grains of salt when you make an all-lowercase post again.

I do kind of see what you are getting at with the accusation of indistinguishability, though that doesn't mean I agree. It would appear to be a quite natural thing to become relatively blind to small differences between people as the difference between oneself and the two compared people becomes larger; while I know it not to be the case, I could have easily come to the same conclusion about, say, you, Legion and Yoshi Dude from the way you appear to be when I don't make an effort to understand you. There isn't much that I see as possible to do about it, either; considering how most in your list probably are about as interested to mingle with the 'indiscernable', 'no-personality' ones in mine as those in mine are interested in interacting with the 'indiscernable', 'no-personality' ones in yours, there simply is no such thing as a reason to maintain communication strong enough to maintain people's natural impulse to mix with their own kind.
It having functioned in some way in the past ultimately only means that the old community's already-heterogenized subsets drifted apart, something which is all but surprising considering the long history of splits and mutual detest.

That's a fair point. Indistinguishable isn't the best term, but the userbase is certainly more homogeneous than it was when I joined. Just as an example, are there even any active female users now? In more active days, a visitor to the board would see lots of active conversation on a variety of topics, and they may be tempted to register and give their input. At the moment, it looks like most of the discussion on the board is about the board itself*, and no outsider would be bothered to register and join in. These are just my impressions of the situation. It sounds like there's active general discussion in the IRC channel. Is there any way you can get this kind of activity onto the board? Or maybe you should just focus on the IRC channel and have the board act as an auxiliary entity.

What I personally want in a board as a user, and what you want as a board owner, are obviously very different things. I'm not expecting that to change. But I got myself into this discussion, so I might as well ride it out.

*I don't look at the rom hacking sections. If those are also ineffective at grabbing new rom hacking users I'm not going to guess at why.

I registered pretty much just to say this. I browse the rom hacking sections from time to time, but this place is so stagnant. It's a joke. The staff do nothing at all, and are for the most part unnecessary. You rarely listen to the user base's opinion, and you seem to think that whatever you think is right, whatever your opinion is, it's infallible. You're ridiculous and you all need to change.

Not a good idea to join just to insult the staff and forum...

From what I could gather in this thread, the board is like tRO1 dying, we all ask for something to save it.
Hey if you consider who's your only possible savior I'd be wary of asking him to save your board2, or else you won't be able to just click to get to online.php, you'll have to type it in the address bar.

I really hope people get this, and bh nerd rages over the tRO2 joke

^ditto.

Oh, and the programming forums too.

Bukkaroo: who are you anyway?

Interesting note: I glanced at the staff list and we have one local moderator, 5 global moderators and 5 admins. When did things get so top heavy?

Since Local Modding didn't work, which it never has. Hasn't been implemented yet, and I doubt it really will. The one local mod, I think, doesn't have any power . Just a useless title, and a custom title.

It was implemented before you just said it never was implemented. Confused yet?

Not really. It hasn't been implemented yet in this build, I'm guessing. But it worked in the old Acmlm's Boards because it WAS implemented into them.

What makes a board is mostly the people posting in it, not the admins...

But it actually works in this build since some 12 hours ago! Have a look at the SMRPG forum.

And yes, what Trax said is completely true. There's only so much staff can do for the board being interesting if the users don't follow suit...

Here is why I'm not active anymore:

I came here for one reason and one only: FRAXY, and to develop a full game based on it. But since everyone but me and plasma seem to be interested only in making bosses, the local FRAXY community has devolved into a very ornate "look what I can do". Surprising since there's obviously a lot of talent here. And disappointing.

Since there is no real and consistent interest in doing the hard work of making something beyond a bunch of bosses, I've basically quit FRAXY and thus this board. There's no reason for anyone to stay on a board or in a community if there's no communal activity to get excited about that I can personally help build toward something greater than myself. It just seems amateur to continue to build boss after boss after boss and leave 2/3 of FRAXY unexplored.

So since the FRAXY community isn't serious, I'm out basically. I check in every two weeks or so for maybe a neat or goofy thread, but that's it.

End transmission.

To spawn a new undercurrent in anything, you need patience before everything else. Months after you, surely somebody else will come up with the same idea and quit in frustration finding himself being the only one.

People liked Lazy Shell until they downloaded it and ran into the steep learning curve.
