GamePro accepts bribe to fix Supreme Commander's review?

This is really sad. EA is getting lower by the day.

Supreme Commander is good. Play it.

This is honestly nothing new. Consider.

Most gaming sites/publications get their funding mostly from advertising.

Their advertiser doesn't like something they've said. They're pretty big and supply a lot of money and threaten to leave if they get a review below xx/yy.

So the publication has no choice but to respond with a higher rating, or risk going out of business.

This is probably the first time they've been outright bribed, but honestly, it's been going on for quite a while.

Eh, I tend to read reviews I knew is made by users. I tend to take a heavy dose of salt with reviews from big sites.

I trust amatuar reviews more than ones made by "journalists". Besides I'm not surprised it actually happened, although I kinda expected the otherwise (aka giving EA games a high rating instead of low-rating others...)

Read the comments. Some are claiming the accusations against EA are bias and that these "rumors" exist only within that article.

Granted I don't care enough to do the reasearch either way, but I figure its an interesting thing to consider. I honestly don't care, again Somwhere, someone is doing something dishonest, I guess is what we get out of all this.

You're always going to be suspicious whenever you see a review that goes against the grain. If a game's averaging 60% on most sites and there's one site that gives it 95% and praises it to the heavens, then people will cry foul. Maybe they accepted a bribe, maybe they just really liked the game; but it's still strange.

This rumor about the FF: Dirge of Cerberus review is great though... Famitsu usually reviews FF games for launch but delayed the review of DoC for a couple of weeks. No FF game has ever not gotten some sort of award in Famitsu... and a few weeks later, the review finally came out with the game getting the bare minimum required for a Silver Award (7's across the board). The rumor is either Square Enix made sure it got an award... or Famitsu agreed to give it an award on the condition it got the lowest score possible.

The things the guy in the GamePro review said were just blitheringly wrong though. The game is "completely unplayable"? I don't get that, and it sounds like bribe-material to me.

Update: We're happy to report that the person who started the bribe rumor on the Gamespot forums has admitted it was a lie, so we've removed mention of the rumor from this story. Their rumor post has also now been removed at Gamespot, and mention of it on the Gas Powered Games forum has also gone.
