Going back to the thread title, my college Internet really sucked, at least in the campus housing. Every so often it would go down for 15-30 minutes at a time for no reason, and the wireless coverage was really spotty with no wired alternative. Everyone complained a lot about it, but it was free*.
*Assuming you're willing to shell out $4000 a semester for campus housing. |

Ah. We didn't even have wireless until recently, but with all the recent restrictions on it, I'm suprised it's useful for anyone outside of normal webbrowsing.
I've submitted a suggestion to the Box™, but I'm honestly doubtful of it ever actually doing anything. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

My college internet isn't too bad. The only problem with it is that I can't do any port forwarding or anything. I'm not sure what speed my upload and download is there, but I know it's pretty decent.
As for the setup, it's basically just one huge network that we all connect to, but in order to connect to it, we need to uninstall our antivirus and install Symantec AV Corporate edition, and then run some sort of scanner that tries to lock windows update to "automatically download and install everything" (some gpedit magic fixed that though. My preferred setting is "let me know when they're available, but don't download or install anything"). So after that's done, we need to log into the network, and it has a strange side-effect: It'll redirect whatever page I try to go to to the login screen, where I log in, and then it goes to a "you're logged in" screen. The side effect is that whatever URL I logged in with will be redirected to the "you're logged in" screen. This redirection will be in place for a day or so. I had to log in yesterday, before I came home. When I got home, it's still trying to redirect to the "you're logged in" screen. I don't know if it's some kind of DNS cache or what. To get around this, I take a character from the url, and change it to %hex. At school, after a while, I'd be able to access the original page, but here, I dunno. ____________________ |

My high school has internet, but there's not much point bringing a laptop to school there. My college has campus-wide Wi-Fi, which is pretty good. |
