This thread is for all those who want to contribute to a community hack. SMPRG is a very large game, but if we all do a little we can make a great hack quickly.

This is going to mostly use the "Export" and "Import" functions of LazyShell.

If you want to hack SMRPG, but dont have countless hours to spend on your own hack, this is perfect for you. For example, I just spent less than an hour building a simple level to jump start this thread. I exported the level and uploaded it.

A couple examples:
You want to create a boss battle, so you write a great battle script to fight Belome. Simply export and upload that battle script once its ready, and it can go in the Community hack
You love to draw sprites, but dont really care to build levels, or script events. Just create sprites and animations, and then upload them.
You can take a level someone else has created and script a great event for it
Your creative and can write great stories (god knows I cant!), so you create a storyline, and write some dialogue for the hack
You just want to build levels without the annoyance of the rest of the hacking process
Your great at assembly hacking, so you create some awesome additions to SMRPG, why not submit them to the community hack?

A great example of this would be WaddlerD, who is awesome at battle scripting, or giangurgolo who probably knows how to script events better than anyone, and I know there are people out there way more creative than me when it comes to writing stories.

If we all do what were good at, itll probably turn out amazing.

So, post your work here.

Include:
1) What it is your submitting
2) A description
3) The exported files
4) A screenshot if applicable

Here is my first submission:

- A simple level
- Lands End, sand area level edit. Includes physical map. A couple overlay problems that need to be resolved.

This is a surprisingly good idea. Did you want to outline some sort of plot? I didn't even plan on really using Lazy Shell too much any time soon, but I probably will when I get home from college just for this

I think I have battle scripts down pretty well, I can help with any enemy script creation, or try at least.

I think a full community hack would do this game some good. Putting that author stamp in will be a large copy/paste session though... heh heh.

Aha, I knew this would only be a matter of time before it showed up.

But before we come up with anything large or start hacking, I say we get the basics down, with a plot and main idea.

I definitely would like to contribute some ideas and I plan to have that battle scripting tutorial started by tonight to help things along for everybody.

I'm available most of the time. I just don't like the level designing aspect. At least not yet.

I really like the Item/Battle Script modding aspects, though. I will not limit myself to those 2 areas, though.

Scripting and Levels are solid. (Levels are still scary to assemble, but I can manuver through it)

We'll see what happens.

I'm getting better with levels and event scripting, as well as dialogue (but that last one's easy, and events are only moderately hard )

I'm also a competent 65816 ASM coder, and I could probably work with the SA-1 as well since it's the same instruction set.

Image, too big to show - Yeah, I know there's a couple issues with it, but this is after only about and hour and a half of work |;

Here is one (if not, the only) contribution to this hack:

This file contains two (2) scripts that should be in the same battle togethor. Any attacks can be modified, I don't care. I just like 005 the best.

Visual of Script 001

I might as well suggest a storyline:

"Mario's on vacation at Yo'ster Isle, a place far from the shoreline of the mushroom kingdom and other areas. He was enjoying himself until he felt a strong earthquake. He could see into the distance Exor impaled the keep again. With a grunted 'Dammit.' Mario jumps off to asses the damage (this of course, would have to leave level 02's scripts intact and figure out what activates what.) After the bridge was destroyed a second time, Mario had to round up all of his old friends and Bowser to reclaim his keep and destroy Smithy, again.

Only this time: Smithy is dead. Culex is the one to cause all the chaos and trouble this time around. He thought Mario's world was better than the one lived in, since he only caught a glimpse of sunlight that escaped from the door before being swallowed by Darkness on Mario's last visit.

He's destined to live in the world, but to do that, would have to end all life on earth, which is sort of bitter-sweet for Culex, unable to observe life, but he has the opportunity to travel the Mario Universe. Culex also has this illusionary idea that if he can re-create the weapon-monsters that the blacksmith created, he can re-create life on Earth as well, despite him knowing only a small amount on how complex life is.

Mallow is found at Nimbus Land.
Geno is found at Star Hill
Bowser is found (choice)
Peach is found after being rescued from a monster."

There's my suggestion.

Well, I registered to post up this suggestion. Feel free to shoot it down if you don't like it, it won't make me feel bad or anything as I got enjoyment out of witting it if nothing else. :-) Its a little long, so bear with me.

..........................................................

Sometimes, things don’t always end as they should, and even when the ending is happy, well, the ending isn’t always the end. So what happened after the curtain closed on Mario and our friends? What happened once balance was restored to the world and our heroes celebrated with their parade and watched the stars above?

Within the world and beyond what eyes could see, the gears of what would come were already turning. After all, they didn’t really think things would be that simple, did they? The star road had been restored, this much was true, but the star road itself served to maintain the harmony of the world. Even if it was fixed, the time that it was damaged, the time that things were misaligned was more than enough to send fractures through the world.

Smithy had been a powerful opponent, but he had been a living and breathing one. He had held both understandable motivation, if twisted, and emotions, if dark. But the foe that threatens our heroes this time is of a different nature. After all, how do you face something as basic as a manifestation of entropy released by the fractures that wound themselves through the world?

But such a manifestation had little power without a vessel to channel itself through, without a form to concentrate itself in. Enter our starlit hero, Mario. Mario had saved the world, had spared it from the Havoc that Smithy would have unleashed. But by doing this, Mario himself had carried the Stars, had been a vessel for their safe return. All of that energy carried by a mortal, such a thing would leave unseen scars beneath the surface.

It was these scars, these cracks in the armor of our righteous hero that entropy found, that entropy seeped through and invaded. It was in this way that the brightest light in our world faded and became its darkest point. Maybe Geno could have stopped this, had he taken from Mario that first star and held the ones there after himself. And he would have, surely, had Geno not been a youngling star child. Had he known what might occur. But even the elders themselves could only speculate and guess as to what might happen.

And maybe the elders themselves could have looked upon the world, gazed upon what was starting and reached their hands into to stop the flow of cascading darkness from happening… had the fractures of the star road not have been worse than that which began in the world.

The source of balance was also the hardest hit by the absence of it. Even as Mario found himself possessed by Entropy Manifest, even as it made its presence known to those that could feel it by concentrating itself so, the Star Road faltered and failed. As Mario made his way into the Mushroom Kingdom, his eyes swirling pools of sheer nothing, the stars above winked out one by one until none were left, and the people of the world felt a shudder shift through their very souls.

A single glimmer of hope went easily overlooked due to this, but those who knew to look for it would find their hearts slightly lifted by its appearance. A single shooting star on an unknown destination, its form perhaps the gleaming sign marking the return of a hero who had helped to deliver the world in its last time of darknes.

Our story picks up two years after the stars vanished, and the world finds itself dying. By this point, Entropy’s presence in the world has already caused most every towns buildings to find themselves reduced to rubble with those that still stand in various states of decay. Like the buildings, the population is already dead or finds itself dieing at various rates. There are still a few in good health, but the number of which slowly falls with every passing day.

The Mushroom kingdom is the worst hit. Not a single building still stands besides the princesses castle, and it finds itself a twisted version of what it used to be, and even it is in a constant state of decay. It is here that Entropy sits upon its thrown, content to let the world fall to ruin while it stands idle. It is also from here that it sends out shadow images of itself, each of these varying in the level of strength provided. Where ever these make there way to decays at a much faster rate as they are concentrated form of entropy, if not Pure like the one that sits upon the throne. They are drawn to strong concentrations of stability.

Luckily for the world, the princess was able to escape from the place before the darkness that is now in Mario’s form waltzed in. From here window she made way much as she did during the much lighter story that preceded this one. Her wear about are unknown by the general populous.

Tadpole pond has been reduced to a murky swamp, most of the water having evaporated and the trees withered and dead. No sweet music can be heard coming from what was once the tune pool any more, and Frogfucious is assumed to be dead, his failing health from age having been hurried along by the forces of entropy in the world.

Boosters tower has been abandoned, its structural safety having failed rather quickly after the appearance of a form of entropy. Gathering his Snifit and bomb armies, Booster “Invaded” Yoshi’s island and turned it into a veritable fortress. They have thus far been able to resist the appearance of further forms of entropy who have wandered in that direction, though a keen observer might notice that even at that the fortress holds itself together rather well.

If one would ask the right person, they would learn that the star that fell on that fateful night landed on the island.

The people of seaside town have relocated to Jones’ ship, much to his annoyance. Due to its location underwater, it has avoided being the target of concentrated entropy, and due to its nature of already being busted and decayed even increased entropy hasn’t had much of an effect on it at this point.

The residents of monstro town have relocated to the inside of a once sealed door that had vanished for awhile. It reappeared a year after the death of the world began and much to the surprise of those that explored it an odd looking host was there to welcome them, though coldly, announcing that it wished to do battle with their hero once more. It grew disappointed when it was informed of what had thus happened in the world and allowed the citizens of the city to take up residence in its location between dimensions, even going so far as to make a city for them there.

Even Culex’s immense power is limited, however, and the strain of maintaining a dimension in which both he and the citizens can live is slowly taking a toll on it. If things aren’t resolved soon, it will falter for even a second and all present will be lost to the void between dimensions forever.

Nimbus land is in surprisingly good shape. Through some twist, the clouds themselves are held together through sheer will, or psychic magic. The people of the villages health is failing much like the rest of the world, but so long as they collectively have enough strength the city itself will maintain form. And the strongest of them all is the Hero Mallow, having been strengthened by his journey with Mario and co. He is a pillar that the rest have come to lean on, and through the strength of his mind the city has yet to falter an inch.

The last place we visit, and the beginning of our story, is Bowser’s keep. Or the land that was once Bowser’s keep, at any rate. It is through the magic of Magi Koopa that the keep had survived thus, though it was the brains of the Princess that Bowser “kidnapped” from the woods near the mushroom kingdom that had hatched the plan.

Through some use of experimental magic, Magi koopa had either managed to transfer Bowser’s keep into Exor’s Mouth and thus into that dimension, or he had managed to extend that dimension to cover the mouth. Even Magi Koopa isn’t really sure as the magic involved is new to him. [IE, whichever is easier to program. :-)]

The world slowly finds itself fading into nothingness, and even the strongholds that have managed to allow life to continue on will soon find themselves fading from existence as their strength falters. The Heroes must act before even their strong will and strength finds itself sapped by the ongoing forces at work on them.

Will the world find itself saved as it always has in the past, or is this its final chapter? To fade into the darkness with a whimper, rather than a bang?

...................................................

Heroes: All of the old cast with the exception of Mario. If this is too difficult, then re-coloring Mario to Luigi is a possibility, as is having a Mario machine produced from Smithies factory.

Level: I suggest starting the starting heroes off at level 15 if its not too difficult, and just adjusting the strength of the monsters and level of learning skills as needed. This is to just give a general feeling of continuity rather than starting at level 1 all over again.

Comments, questions or concerns are well welcomed.

Knock that shit off. There's a perfectly good story in here. Two of them. There's no reason to criticize them when it's obvious you are more than unwilling to come up with something better. Consider this your warning, PressAdob.

Good work Katsuargi. I love your style of writing. It inspires me to get on my fanfiction again.

Supposedly there's a few issues if Mario isn't the active party member, but that may be due to the events expecting Mario- Katsuargi, your idea may be possible (not having mario int he party), and that's a very well-written backstory.

Well, glad you all like it then.

I don't actually write much, well not story wise anyways. I role play a lot is the thing. I'm best if writing in focused chunks. Stories don't hold the same level, but if I do it in bits and pieces they sometimes come out well.

Anyways, getting sidetracked, guess we'll see what the others think.

No one has posted here for a while, but I thought of an idea that would make this hack unquie, but it might have troubles with other sprites.

It's a Mario and Luigi Hack.

Take out Mallow and Geno, and seperate desired spells etc between them. Bowser can come too.

I think a SMRPG Hack, that would keep everything original to the Mario series, would be cool. I think that is something the original SMRPG failed to do...don't get me wrong though...the game itself is great and a treasure to the Mario series...but I think it could have been a lot better in some ways.
The idea I have would, of course, have Mario as the main character but you also could use Luigi, Toad, Princess, and Yoshi as characters to fight with in battles.

I'd love to see old enemies that were never really used for SMRPG too like Fire Bros., Boomerange Bros., Koopa Kids, Koopa Troopas (The regular ones), Para Goombas, Bullet Bill (Wasn't a fightable enemy), Nipper Plant, (Wasn't a fightable enemy), Thwomp (Wasn't a fightable enemy), and there are many others. I would just like to see some of the originality in it instead of some of these newer enemies and names that really never was seen in the Mario series. A SMRPG game that reflects on adventures from SMB, SMB3, and SMW.

I think that the Treasure Boxes in SMRPG would be cool if they were changed into the original Question Boxes, LOL! And different magic attacks would be cool too, like maybe Mario using his Raccoon tail to attack an enemy or something to that nature, and when Mario uses his fire ball attacks, let him change into his classic White/Red colors while he is doing that assault.

Anyways, all in all, I have a good idea for a new/old SMRPG hack but I just can't get use to using the Lazy Shell editor so it's something I wouldn't be able to do...on top of that, it is very complex too but if anyone would love to take up the concept and let me help out with it, I think it'd be a great hack!

Well, all the things you described can be possible, but it would require much manual sprite editing, coding, and other things, even with Lazy Shell. I'm to Lazy to make entirely new sprites for the game, so I'll leave it to someone who is better and faster then me in that area. =p
