The title says it all.

What's your favourite videogame weapon? Don't just post 3 or 4 words, explain why that weapon is your favourite.

Mine is probably the crowbar from Half Life 2. The speed of that little bugger's pretty intimidating for a melee weapon. I love the way it whistles through the air, pulverizing anything it lands on. I enjoy watching bodies drop to the might of a plain old blunt object.

Also..

Man, there are a lot of weapons in a lot of different games that I love, but one particular one lept to mind right when I saw this thread, and this video says it all.

Crowbar, yo. I held one in my hand once while visiting a hardware store with my mom, and I felt this... surge of POWAR.

And my mom understood why. She's cool.

I have quite a few favorites, but I'd have to pick the ball-and-chain from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Smashing baddies and other things is fun while in close-range combat, but from a distance, I just have a blast with it. It gives me another option besides the bow and arrows, although the ball-and-chain has a shorter range. Not to mention you're vulnerable with it simply because it slows you down, as well as how long it takes to attack, despite it being powerful. Still a good weapon if used properly. (I think I described the basics of it. Aw well. )
Then again, this is just my opinion (pointed out the obvious ).

Well, I've been on a laser disc arcade game kick lately, so I'm going to have to go with the Infanto-Ray from Space Ace. You never said it had to be a weapon you get to use. There's nothing more entertaining than making it to the end of that game, just to get blasted by it, turning you into a baby, and then getting sucked into space. That's just entertainment right there.

There are quite a lot of memorable VG weapons. Here's a few of them:

- Portal gun (Portal)
That's just fucking awesome. Think of the possibilities of a multiplayer Portal game, if it hasnt been done already.

- Golden Gun (GE)
OHKO lawl

- Redeemer (UT)
What's more awesome than going invisible and then getting monster kills from the top of DM-Morpheus?

- AR34 (PD)
It was just a damn awesome gun.

- Speed Burner (MMX2)
Using the charged shot made X seem cooler than he actually as, and it also made you go through most enemies.

What a very difficult question to answer. There are so many weapons that I've seen, mostly from shmups and RPGs. I was tempted to say a tricked out Yoshitsuna Mk. 1 from Disgaea, but I'll go for the most versatile and cool weapon I can think of...

Temjin's Beam Rifle/Sword from the Virtual On series. (I forget the name of it.)

It has the best of both worlds! A long range beam shot for hitting targets at a distance and the ability to slash at close targets using the sword. The special attacks are also interesting. The first special splits the sword in two and shoots a giant laser, doing nice damage to whatever it hits. The second enlarges the sword and turns it into a surfboard, allowing you to run over your opponent and do a big chunk of damage.

I have a few.

The Hurly Glove, from SMRPG. Bowser throws Mario at enemies to attack with it. Surprisingly, it doesn't damage Mario in the slightest. And when Mario's poisoned or something, Bowser throws a Mario Doll instead. SPeaking of which, Mario's standing spot in the battle gets replaced by the Doll when Mario himself is being thrown.

That rickroll weapon posted above. It's too awesome for words.

The Iron Man weapon, available for Gmod. It gives you regenerating health, a lightning fast punch, and the ability to switch between an ion beam and a small bomb. The switchable abilities can both hurt you, the beam only if you stand too close to where you fire and the bomb always (You jump, and the bomb explodes when you land, damaging you and everything within a fairly short radius), but neither has the potential for suicide, thanks to the regenerating health.

The Hadouken. Its awesomeness is just right for fighting games. Too bad nearly everyone else in Street Fighter has a projectile attack as well...

Oh god, so many bloody choices. The BFG is often a good choice for a favorite weapon, but I like the chainsaw more, do to it's awesome factor and how good it is in horror games. Oh, and the ripper in Dead Space is cool, too. Basically, it's gotta be able to obliterate the enemy in interesting and awesome ways. And laser explosions don't cut it anymore. Sorry BFG .

Or ones that are just awesome, and don't have to always obliterate enemies. Like the Portal Gun and the Gravity Gun from Portal and HF2 respectively . If I ever think of any more, I'll bring em up. But there are so many weapons to sift through, it's so difficult.

The Force.

Throw lightsaber. Stormtrooper dodges. You wait. shift left. Change settings to realistic as parents exit teh room. Stormtrooper gets its midsection removed from legs as lightsaber comes back.

You're in the middle of a big group of stormtroopers. Force jump. Apex of jump, force pull. you fall. Stormtroopers fall.

As far as "actual weaponry" goes, the two that come to mind are the Unreal Tournament series' rocket launchers (If you fire them while falling down, you can observe the trail of your own projectiles in 3D! Isn't that, like, totally sweet?) and Secret of Mana's lance (been my weapon of choice ever since I first played that game...)

Also, RO's Soul Strike deserves a honourable mention. Back in tRO1, I just loved walking through dungeons and taking out everything in sight with it without straying from my path. For the really heavy stuff, RO gets the cake again with Meteor Storm.

Probably... The Sword of Aeons from Fable. It being the best sword in game and looking awesome, how couldn't I?

Oh also, if I remember... equipping it slowly heals you...

Okay I got one that's a weapon you actually get to use. The Shivering Felspine from World of Warcraft. If you're a warrior and actually know how to use pole arms, then you're pretty much unstoppable in PvP with it.

Three weapons immediately spring to mind:

One is the Proton Storm (or proton cannon) from the Sega Genesis game Ranger X, largely because, yeah, it consumed your whole power bar, but the windup charge and sheer power the thing put out... awesome.

The ring weapon from Time Pilot '84. When fully powered up, it took up about 2/3 of the screen width and wiped out EVERYthing. On a top down perspective freeroaming shooter like FRAXY is? Totally wicked.

And finally, my all time standby (and wishing I had it in FRAXY) is the E-Laser from Gradius III. Hold the fire button, and not only are you charging it up, but it provides protection from kamikaze attacks, if not the enemy shots. It penetrates, too. and if set in a edge formation of four Options? Devastating.
