While at work yesterday, some people came by to tell us that the blood mobile will be out in the parking lot of the strip mall later on in the afternoon.

Since its been about a year or so since I have given blood, after work, I went over there.

Sad thing is, sure, when I got there, they had just finished setting things up, but there were only two other people inside. Which just goes to show you, not many people are willing to take a needle.

At any rate, I feel good that I helped out in some way (unless my blood expires on some shelf somewhere) and I got a t-shift (heh) and free tickets to the Imporv (even though I can't use it on certain days and for certain people).

Nice to see people willing to donate blood still these days, especially as the demand increases. I myself would, but for one I'm underage(there are rules in place against young people giving blood), and for two... I'm a bit afraid of the weakness afterward. I can take a needle no problem, but I hate being weakened in any way.

I probably should give blood but I'm too scared...I don't know why, I was perfectly fine when they extracted blood for a blood sugar test a few years ago. I guess I generally don't do that kind of stuff voluntarily.

Lol. I despise needles with all my heart. It takes my doctors a while just to get me to calm down and take the needle so they can check my blood. I put up quite a fight when it comes to getting poked with needles. I can't stand those thing penetrating my skin.

Needles aren't bad. Not like spiders...

I give every time I see them at school.I should probably donate more often...but then again they should probably come around more often instead of relying on people coming to them.

I'd love to donate my blood, I just haven't had the chance yet. I have O+ blood. O blood is great, because anyone can accept it. I'm not sure about the + or -, but I know anyone can accept O. Plus, I like knowing I have blood. I don't see it often.

Oh yeah? Spiders are probably a lot more afraid of people than people are of them, but needles HURT LIKE HECK. Why? Doctors just can't seem to avoid poking our nerves....

Yeah, something good will come around besides t-shirts and whatnot, I just know it.

I'm not brave enough to get stuck in the arm by a needle mainly because I hate needles. We're proud of you Anya!

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure there's a thing about having tattoos/piercings that disqualifies me.

They don't allow people with tattoos and piercings to give blood? What, some of the ink and...uh, jewelry molecules gets into the bloodstream and contaminates it?

My school forbids my age to give blood. Everyone in my class does it but me; I'm one of the youngest people in my class (I should be an old freshman).

I was always one of the youngest in my grade. I think it had to do with me attending kindergarden in New Jersey but middle and high school in Michigan, there was probably a cutoff date difference (because I had kindergarden in NJ, all of my schooling started in a year determined by the NJ cutoff date).

At my high school I think you had to be 17 to give blood.

I think it's more concerns about the sterility of the place you got your tattoo/piercing.

I haven't donated blood before because I wasn't old enough to do so until late last year when I turned 17. In the future, I may donate blood.

Hm. I'd donate blood (needles don't scare me), but I never have the time to do it. Plus I'm unsure if the chemicals I'm working with would make my blood bad for them to take.

My mom has given blood once a month, every month, for about... 30 years now.

I admire her ability to get poked with a needle that many times.
