What do you think about the The Bob-omb Mafia?
Shows the editor off really well!
It's alright, I had fun with it.
Makes me want to create a masterpiece!
I haven't played SMRPG, but I might now!
I didn't like it... Mostly because--
I don't care, gimme the editor.

SMRPG: The Bob-omb Mafia

Authors: giangurgolo and Omega
Date: January 22, 2009
Size: 992 KB

Description:
Bowser's last deal with the so-called Bob-omb Mafia has left him empty-handed: the four koopa shells that belong to him still remain in the mafia's hands. Bowser has kidnapped the princess and is holding her for a ransom--it's Mario's task to fulfill the mafia's end of the bargain and acquire Bowser's shells to rescue the princess.

Apart from several layering mistakes (like jumping behind houses bringing you in front of the roofs), one more notable bug I've run into is that the Harlequin's "boost to the next level" renders me immobile once I am there. That, together with a black tile on that map, seems to be reproduceable.

Although the lack of balance/difficulty curve would make assessment of the hack on a gameplay basis difficult, I think this is quite impressive as a demonstration of what the editor can do.

Just use the Radishes, they can be easily beaten if you have a full flower gauge with a jump or two, and you level up crazily fast with them.

I know, and that is part of the problem. There is a lack of correlation between how difficult and how rewarding things are.

(link removed, still some bugs with the hack)

One reason for some of imbalanced gameplay is due to the relative length of the hack, which only consists of three or four areas. I figured I'd give the player the opportunity to level up fast with easier monsters to fight the harder bosses since the length of the hack doesn't allow enough time to level up to a high level.

That might seems amateurish or lazy, because it probably is.

giangurgolo: I've run into several bugs that I can reproduce and document if you like.

Also, if you're having trouble with the radishes at first, check out one of the houses. There might be something in there that can help you out.

As for the hack, I love it. You really gotta look at it as this: It's the first hack of this game with its own designated editor. Square probably had to put in some serious time to work with all the layering in the levels, scripting, etc.. Now, I've put some time into this editor myself, and it isn't a picnic. It's not the editor, it's the game. It took me a while to even get something that *resembles* a level. What these guys did is a shitload of work. Fantastic amount of work. There are bound to be a few bugs, but its function in the end is to show off the abilities of the editor and the aspects of the game it can edit. Not how well one can avoid bugs, write a story, design a game.

Keep this in mind when you start your own hack.

Once again, completely awesome, and I haven't even completed it yet.

I'm a Mac user and can not run the application. Could you point me to the server they're hosted on so I can snag the IPS straight from there?

I seem to get stuck at the forest boss, the blue one, and can't move after battle, is that being looked at too?

The Bob-omb Mafia (Lazy Shell Flagship Hack)

Currently the hack is being debugged. Wait a day or two and it should be good.

The hack has been debugged, and is now up on Cirrus. The direct link posted by Levesque is no longer valid. The reason we are hosting it exclusively on Cirrus is to encourage people to download and start using LazyShell right away. There is a direct link posted in the info section on Cirrus, but we prefer people to at least try LazyShell. PM me if you need a direct link for any reason.

Thanks for being patient with the debugging.

And if I may say so, I just love the atmosphere in The Bob-omb Mafia. Its mostly done by giangurgolo, so I got to play it too .

Enjoy.

There's another thing I noticed with the hack while checking out the battle scripts. From what I've learned from my experiences, if you want an enemy to do multiple attacks with an enemy, you have to have a "If target is alive" conditional to check if anybody in the player's party is still alive. Otherwise, you're gonna get a buggy situation where Harlequin will end up attacking nothing until it goes to "return script" function.

I think I probably should get a Battle Scripting tutorial up real soon.

Unless I'm missing something important, there's another way to get stuck in this hack (I'm playing the corrected version).

I defeated the boss after Harlequin (sorry, can't remember its name), got the key to the double door house and grabbed the itens there. Then I paid to be warped to the same boss and defeated it again. Afterwards, I returned to the same boss location (without using a warp though) to gain more experience/coins and he wasn't there. At this point, I'm stuck. I have looked everywhere and haven't found a way to return to the first screens. The game also hasn't saved, so my progress up to here is lost.

Is this a bug or am I missing some way to get out of this?

Also, I have my own bugs to report on this.

1: You can break into the double-door house early. Get in front of the doors, and jump. You stand on an invisible wall. Walk towards the door slowly, you fall. Face the door, run, and you burst in. This lets you break in right from the start!

2: The battle after you get out of the sewers after beating that Belome-like creature (I forget how to spell his name) can be lost right at the start, even if you're wearing the Shy Hood...and losing puts you in an infinite loop. The music starts droning out, but after the screen fades, it comes back in, and that's it. Freezes right then and there. I take it something's supposed to happen at this point instead of you dying? But yeah...

3: Using the Tank Shell, I was able to beat this battle. I was told they had a shell, didn't find it in the house. So... I left through the door. Uh oh! I can't go back in through it, it's still locked! So I went through the sewer. Entering the pipe to the house puts me exactly on top of the warp, so I warp right back. In other words, once you leave the house, you can't get back in. Ever. Well, unless you use codes or something...

Sorry if this stuff is already known.

Not sure are these already said but..

1. Get game over screen and music dont play, win battle and battle music plays on that area, but music glith will fix when going to another area(somtimes)

2. Game keeps crashing/freesing on Snes 9X v1.43+ v12 (beta8), for example, when you get cut-scene with Yul(on first post, screen 1), push A tuu early and cut-scene freezez, only L+R+Str+Sel helps. Also, at battle with yul + two big bob-omb and Vadim, die before Vadim says "I'm gonna cleave ya!", and Vadim moves glithy left and game freezez, also theres another glith with that battle, die after Vadmin says "i'm gonna..." and screen goes black, wait moment and when you push B, you can hear marios jumping sound, you cant do anything else.

3.Figth that blue thing at 2nd screenshot and win battle, those two toads join you and game locks/freezez and you cant move..

4.figth that thing at 4th screenshot and youll get that bonus area, but game locks/you cant move

5.you'll need level-up foever to win that Vadmin battle, or you die at when that (vim?) uses instant-kill attack, so you have to kill every possible enemy and then figth wiggers to get marios hp to around 107, or simply use save-state editor.

6. M/w/g allow sucks wihtout armor, and I cant find one anywhere

7. magickoopas last 500-coin warp locks game, even when you have over 500 coins or nothing :\

EDIT: I think I'm using older version of this hack, not sure
