I generally try to use preview when typing a long post, or one with a lot of HTML in it.

I'm the same way. Nothing like putting in some faulty HTML that snaps the site in half!

I was just thinking about how the Acmlm board isn't nearly as good as it was in the old days, and maybe I'm just getting old, but then I get invited to this newer incarnation. Now this is what things used to be like!

True to what I said in the early days of this mayhem, I did have a look at the other board and consider which one I would prefer to post at.

But I agree with sentiments earlier in this thread about it being a "mess", and I don't find that there's much there that I would want to talk about / respond to / etc. I'm one of these people that likes to post when I have something to say -- and I would just never have anything to say there. The structure of conversation is a lot more like Instant Messaging, and I never understood message-board-as-instant-messaging style forums.

Now that the other board appears to no longer exist, can it get moved to the old address? Whenever I see a website on no-ip.org, I always assume it will go bye-bye in a few weeks.

We're actually on the same server as twilightro.kafuka.org, we just have no domain name. (I wonder how hard it'd be to put it on "acmlm.xkeeper.net"?)

But their server was down for a while, heh...

(The acmlm.org domain is, afaik, owned by ||bass. And he's never giving it up because as long as he can coast off of that domain's popularity, he pretty much has a free server to fuck around with.

I don't mind this server much, except it's in Germany, so... latency is pretty bad.)

The downtime was caused by the server machine's power supply blowing up (according to tech support), which, as I hope, shouldn't occur on a regular basis.
As for domains, I will probably ask Emuz to repoint the primary DNS record for kafuka.org to me, so something like acmlm.kafuka.org would be considered. Or we hire an altogether new TLD... for now, though, no-ip.org works, somewhat.

Dwedit: From what I know, ||bass is in possession of the server acmlm.org is hosted on.

I believe this board is all new code and the other one is a derivative of the original code. Not sure though.

Neither of the two boards have inherited any of the original Acmlmboard1.x code as far as I know. The other board is a full recode by ||bass, this one by Acmlm ("meat" of the code, 100% of what was there in the beginning and a good share of what was added later), Xkeeper and me.

I guess I just assumed the other board used some old code because it looks almost exactly like the original, whereas this one, while maintaining the same feel, has several differences.
