I'm sure plenty of people expected this, but now it appears to be true. Sonic USA and Sonic Japan are not the greatest friends, and Team Sonic doesn't like making Sonic games anymore, and thus their work suffers. Who'da thunk it?

Hah, what's awesome is when he basically describes Sonic: Unleashed. Because back when it was originally posted, people probably took it as an absurd claim, never expecting it to turn in to an absurd game.

Well, this explains the crap quality of the recent games. The question is, what will happen to the Sonic franchise in the US if Sonic Team USA goes down the toilet?

The Japanese will pick it up and we'll get Sonic with spiky hair and absurd superpowers...

The idea of a werehog is the most ridiculous idea I've ever seen.

Didn't that already happen circa 1999?

Was there anything good at all in the Sonic franchise wise after Genesis?

Might've been Sonic CD but I haven't played it. Oh yeah, maybe the Sonic Rush games for DS too.

Sonic adventure 1 and 2 were actually good games, not up to the genesis days but definitely worth playing. And the advance/DS games were rather good too.

But aside from that nothing...

Sonic CD was for the add-on for Genesis/Mega Drive, that doesn't really count as a separate system.

Also I thought Sonic Adventure blew ass. The GBA/DS games are pretty good, but not up to the original series' quality.

I dunno, it was also for PC, so I mean I guess it technically counts. I've only played the PC version, but I thought it was pretty top notch.

Sonic Adventure really isn't that good. Sonic Adventure 2, on the other hand, it simply amazing.

The best thing to happen to Sonic was emulation, so we can see him in his original form, unblemished by this horrible 21st century. And for the sake of it, let's just try to blow of the late 90s, Limp Bizket and all.

Fun fact, Sonic Adventure 2 was done by Sonic Team USA.

That's why theres references to San Francisco where their office is located.

Wheee.

The original 4 Sonic games were the best games ever. Definetely my favorites (I'm a Sonic fanboy from the early 90s, I admit it ). The newer ones blow ass, and it's probably due to the fact that all creativity has been sucked out of the Sonic Team. Too bad SEGA's trying to suck out more, killing Sonic even MORE. There is no way for him to live on any more, unless it's in handheld 2D games. Fuck 3D sonic games, they suck. Let's go on with his roots, 2D, and then perhaps he'll live on, but barely. My 2 cents, I guess.

Also, I didn't think Sonic Adventure was horrid. It was alright. Same with SA2, but the 2D ones from the Genesis were FAR superior in every way. But it's still an awesome game (The best 3D Sonic one in my opinion, and I own all of them except for the newest one with the Werehog)

I played SA1 on Dreamcast when I was a kid. I hated it. It confused me, because it was too much of a jump. I had just got a 64 when the Dreamcast came out. I'd yet to play a Playstation One. Super Nintendo and Genesis and DOS were what I knew. It just didn't sink in that 3D games could be good until I played Super Mario 64 at a friend's house (I only had a few N64 games). I got around to SA2 on the Gamecube. I remember it warmly for beating that weird dino monster in space at the end as a gold glowing weirdo. And there was that kicking song "LIVE AND LEARN", best described as "music you listen to while putting on socks".

I haven't bothered playing to completion any Sonic game since SA2. I rented Heroes. I tried the Secret Rings. I refuse to touch any of the other slime that has been regurgitated into a disc drive. The image projected on the screen are particle of vomit and blood from the guts of Sonic Team being splattered on your television. This is what Sega sold to you. They hate you. They hate Sonic. They're taking an image and squeezing it's innards into is fine a pulp as possible - and they're finally dripping the last drops out of an otherwise dessicated anthropomorphic hedgehog corpse.

The thing is, anyone who posts in this thread are obviously going to be nostalgic sonic lovers. No one has actually given a good reason why the 3D games suck (oh okay just because you don't like the way it looks or plays doen't mean it's a shit game) but state (without a good reason either) that every 2D game is the best thing ever to walk the face of the earth.

I think the opposite. I think, you know, after 10 years of the series, the old games got extremely dull and boring. Playing the exact same stages over, and over, and over doesn't really appeal to me, especially over such a long period of time (and even more when you can complete some of the stages in 20 ~ 40 seconds flat, where is the fun in that?) There isn't anything exciting about these games now and theres nothing that would keep people interested in it except for all the people who loved the games from when they were kids etc.

After genesis, in my opinion, the games got better, up to the point of the Wii being released. The Sonic Rush games were fun and interesting to play, you know, because it was different, along with SA2. Pre-genesis, I'd probably play the sonic games at most with 3 playthroughs then give it up for years. Atleast with those games, there was enough replay value in it to keep me interested with it (Missions in SA2, Story modes in Sonic Rush etc). Even if the latest games aren't the best, atleast they are trying something new. Some people will like it, some won't, but saying that it's the absolute shit for the reason "2D games were good hur" is the stupidest thing I've seen.

If Sonic Team USA are bored of creating the series, it shows you how boring the game actually is. If they felt that 2D games were that amazing, they would obviously make more. As long as some people like the new Sonic games, I don't see any problem. If sonic team USA give it up, Japan will just take over it most likely, or equally stop the series.

Buggy, awful controls, awful camera, uninspired and boring gameplay, bad story, annoying voices, shitty ideas to play as other characters than sonic.

Need I go on?

Sonic Adventure 2 wasn't that bad though.

It had decent controls, the camera was okay save for spots where you can force it to break, and the only character I disliked playing as was Tails. I had lots of fun as Eggman.

The chao were great too, and despite these cute creatures, it manages to be the most mature Sonic game in my opinion. Balancing the fun of the old games with the edgyness of the new ones... if you can even call it edgyness.

And really, who do you prefer, the SA voice actors, or the 4kids ones?

SA2 had a glitch in it that was rather funny. In Final Rush, near the end of the first segment when you're approachign the cannon bore and the path slopes downwards gravitationally, you can jump off and fall waaaayyy down, landing on a pair of rails about halfway down the cannon. if you can land it, you can cut off a huge chunk of the level there.

Whoops!
