Slashdot blog entry, Article

Supposedly the first time when a smiley is added to that list...

The actual list.

I find it funny that "greater than or equal to three" has the opposite meaning.

"Monkey" was on the list because of what some see as its rampant use as a suffix. "Especially on the Internet, many people seem to think they can make any boring name sound more attractive just by adding the word 'monkey' to it," wrote Rogier Landman of Sommerville, Mass.
What..? I haven't seen "monkey" used much at all for any reason on the internet, unless someone is referring to... an actual monkey.

I have no idea what you are talking about, NghtKevMonkey.

You should all play my MarioMonkey hack.

"make any boring name sound more attractive just by adding the word 'monkey' to it"
What is that quote about? I have NEVER seen "Monkey" tacked onto somebody's name.

I <3 board2. First time I saw <3 I didn't know what the hell I was looking at.

Ok, these guys really don't seem to know what they're talking about.

Maybe they're referring to Greasemonkey and similar? Still rather retarded though. :/

lol blank cell
What is this even banned from? And why do people care so much about literal meanings of words? It's words and text. It's not that big of a deal.

The only one I agree with is 'green' because it's true. It's an advertising fad now. Companies say it when it's not true. I want to see a gas company say they've gone green. I'd punch someone in the face.

I think they got the idea from this Schlock Mercenary strip:

Still, what the hell where they thinking?

Yeah. Regarding the whole -monkey thing, the only usage I could think of is "codemonkey", and that has been in common use for ages without experiencing anything like a usage spike as far as I can tell.

In the end, the reason for its inclusion will have been something like some kid from some obscure community like ours deciding to complain about the latest silly fad around there, the commission compiling the list googling for "monkey" and being overwhelmed by the number of google hits to a sufficient degree to include it.

As far as <3 goes, I think the best solution, at least from a mathematical point of view, would be as follows...

"<4. It might be more than just love."

Or, since they killed off the heart, we could replace it with the robot heart! E>

So, pretty much anything less than E is banned, if they decide to 86 that one too. A, B, C, D will pretty much be without a home. Poor bastards...
