I feel bad cause for most games I need cheat codes to finish. I haven't with the wii games thus far. But for most other things, I do.
Is it cheap to use cheats? Do some games require cheats?
I probably shouldn't be asking people here this, but whatever.

I avoid using them for at least one playtrough, but when I used to try and pull music or just see how much I could break things, I'd use cheat code a fair bit. I always figured that since I'd beaten it honestly, it didn't matter

Most of the games that I play don't have cheat codes.

If the game is really too hard to beat without them, I generally use the cheat least likely to disrupt the flow of the game. Like Sukasa, I try to avoid cheats for at least one playthrough, but usually wind up just tinkering with them for fun later.

Before I knew anything about ROM hacking, I used to own a Game Genie for the NES. I would piddle away countless hours testing codes I found to give me just a little more to do with the game...

However if you consider the occasional bout of luck-manipulation with savestates to be cheating, than I'm definitely guilty of that one.

I think it depends on how you use them. If you play a game normally, and you can't get through a spot in the game without going online to look up what you're supposed to do, then I think cheats are OK. If you're doing an LP, then I think cheats like save states and rewinds are OK as well. But I generally only use them if the game gets stupid-hard (That's where it's so hard, the game becomes stupid). And I think it's fine when you're just screwing around.

But with most games, I don't think it's necessary to use cheats. So most of the time I use them, I think it's fine.

I play most games from a technical point of view, so yeah.

I never ever ever use cheat codes the first play through. I always do it once all the way through, then I just use codes to screw around.

I play without cheats until I get stuck. Then, I resort to minor cheats to continue, then I get more heavy on the cheats if I continue getting stuck.

I shamelessly use cheats if the game in question has a cool mechanic but weak story, or a weak game mechanic but cool story. This way I don't have to groan through bad Engrish or whiny characters to check out what the 20-hit combo looks like, and I don't have to spend 70+ hours of repetitive fights to find out what happens at the cutscenes. This is because there are more games that are interesting to me than I can possibly play.

Then again, I just started skipping all that and watching other people play walkthroughs of levels on YouTube anyway. Why even buy the game? This is especially true of games that are more than a couple of years old. I can't remember the last time I actually spent money on a game because of this.

So yeah, cheats are my friends, because I don't want to spend all this time doing the equivalent of nimble fingered number crunching to get at the rewards of the game... unless the story AND mechanics of the game are parallel in strength and at least above average. Then I try not to.

I use cheats a lot, I'll admit it. Mostly because I'm not that good at single player games. I was pretty good at TF2 for a while, but even then I tended to die fast (or maybe because I was a medic. They always shoot the medic first).

I also seem to be rather ghostly - I get stuck in walls a lot. Noclip is my friend these days...

Kind of a weird question to answer. On the topic of actually playing games, I don't cheat. Whereas in testing maps or whatever, cheats can come in handy.

When I cheat it's usually because I'm just screwing around with the game rather than actually playing. During normal play I don't cheat unless the game stupid-hard (like Kaizo Mario or something).

If said cheat allows me to torture the main character, yes.

Else no.

Depends what you use them for. It can be fun to screw around with games.

I never use codes when completing game for first time, and rarely after that, somtimes I use on doom1/2/duke nukem 3D IDDQD/DNKROZ code to get full health, but still rarely, unlesh playing some game what is just pain-in-ass to complete, like duke nukem zero hour(No check-points in levels, and game saves only in between levels, and most levels are pretty large, like I have died in level2 like ten times when I'm nearly end, but still I havent use any codes at all).

Somtimes I use frame-advance/savestates when I'm playing with emulator, but lately I stopped doing that, but still I use save-states when playing hacks (like AIR etc) or shitty game what sucks ass

Ditto. Cheats are fun for screwing around with a game engine, but I never use them to actually beat a game.

And most multiplayer games I play only have cheats in controlled circumstances anyway so it's not like I can use them if I really wanted to most of the time.

I usually stick to that, too. I prefer glitches. XD My favorite thing is finding a glitch or gimmick and exploiting it. For example, in a FF game, I love to defeat the point of bosses by afflicting a status effect that they aren't immune to, that completely makes the boss obsolete.

Challenge for you guys (This is possible): In Metroid Zero Mission, try and get to the first Metroid room, WITHOUT the ice beam.

I don't care who cheats. But if you do cheat and you LIE about it and you have 20 characters all level 9999 in Disgaea 3 and you've only had the game for 2 weeks then thats kind of upsetting. True story, I have a friend who always cheats to "beat me" at games we are playing and get ahead of me. Its REALLY annoying.

My mom recently discovered GameFAQs. Some of the puzzles in Professor Layton and the Curious Village are real stumpers, y'see?

I usually don't. If i get stuck, i usually try to find a walkthrough. Then, when i beat the game, i see how bad i can fuck it up. XD
