Hm, no SC2 thread? Well, that needs to be remedied! Starcraft was an amazing game, which still has a sizable player-base more than 11 years after its release, and a huge fan following. I used to play it a lot, but now I'm just waiting for SC2 to come out...

...Yeah so I'm thinking it's going to be an awesome game, obviously ... what about you people?

Also an avid fan of StarCraft. I think it was my most played game of all time, and probably my second favorite game ever.

However, I am a little less excited for SC II than I was even just a year ago. Their decision to split it into three different games (one for each of the factions) just seems wrong, or out of place. Most of my favorite games are that way because of their storylines, and if this is going to be split up like this, it will probably just ruin it.

It also seems like a money-grabbing scheme to boot. I know, I know, Blizzard is in fact a business and are, in fact, out to make money, but with a massive cash cow like WoW, do you really have to try that hard for money.

I'll be honest and say that, at this moment, I'm more excited about Diablo III than I am of SC II, though it makes me sad that I ever had to even say that about something as epic as StarCraft.

I'm less than excited about that too, and really I can't see them needing to do it from a money standpoint at all; WoW makes them billions per year probably... but if they include enough story with each installment/"expansion", I'll be happy (and maybe if it's only ~$10 each ).

Although I have never played Starcraft, I must say this game is one of the few examples where seeing a trailer triggered a "wow, this looks totally sweet" reaction coupled with an actual desire of obtaining it as opposed to plain acknowledgement of technical aspects as was the case for me with, for instance, Crysis.

Depending on whether or not I have any machine that can remotely run it, I might actually consider getting it when it's out (unless my pirate instinct takes over, which it ultimately probably will) - but then, three games? That's the first time I hear something like that. Will they be combineable into one if you got multiple or remain properly standalone?
(Yeah, I'm far less upset about the money-making scheme aspect of it than I would be if I honestly expected my pirate instinct not to take over.)

The whole splitting into 3 games also annoyed me. I always loved starcraft, even if I watched my brother play it more than play it myself. I feel like, with World of Warcraft and it's expansions, Diablo 3 coming out, and of course this, they have no real need to split it all up.

And sadly, nightkev, they aren't gonna make each $10, for the sole fact that each campaign is probably gonna be pretty sizeable and all the multiplayer content included. I'm guessing they're probably gonna be ~$25ish. That seems the most reasonable price for these.

IIRC, each of the three campaigns will have about 30 missions, which is about 3 times as large as a single campaign from the original games. Splitting the games up does sound pretty reasonable, but only if they're properly priced. Currently, I'm cautiously optimistic about the whole ordeal.

Well, it'll probably be like how expansions normally work (see: Starcraft and the Brood War expansion, or most games out there with expansions (D2+LoD, SimCity4+RH, etc)), though iirc they are going to make them able to run standalone as well.

that means each one is about the size of this original game, minus the expansion. I agree, that does sound more agreeable, but only iif the PRICE IS RIGHT!
......

Sorry about that, don't know what happened, hehe. Anyway, I still wonder what would be wrong with giving the gamers all 90 missions in one buy? There'll probably be a battle chest in no time, but I don't think they had any REAL need to split up the games like this.

Money is of course going to be a big factor in their decision to do it, and possibly time too. It probably takes a lot of time to make the campaign, so they release it as they finish it instead of waiting for it all to be done and THEN releasing it (maybe).

maybe.... Then again, they may just release them all full price. To be honest, I'm in it mostly for the multi-player

Info on how the "Trilogy" will work (it will be like the original SC; the game and two expansions (not stand-alone games)).
