Looks fantastic, mate. Been following this since the beginning and will definitely pick this up again soon. Out of curiosity, do you know what else you'd like to implement in future releases? Your well of ideas must be drying up by now, right? :O

Out of curiosity, do you know what else you'd like to implement in future releases?

Among other things:

- Battle track starting positions edition
- Object type / behavior selection
- Ghost Valley pillars edition
- Track background edition
- Color palette edition
- Driver stats edition
- Track name edition
- Tile type edition
- Paint bucket
- Undo / redo

Not sure I'll do everything.

You didn't happen to mean "editing", did you?

Awesome! The new function that importst all the edits (AI, overlay, etc) is nice. I managed to fix up errors( AI path, jumps)

Will be waiting patiently for newer versions

- Track background edition
- Color palette edition

It would be awesome if you could implement them!!!

What's wrong with the word "edition"? It's just a substantive...

You mean I just bothered correcting the Epic Edit change log and my site news for nothing?

Yeah, "edition" is completely fine. I guess some people interpreted the word as in "Deluxe Edition", which is obviously not the case...

Actually, just to pick one as an example, "track background edition" would imply to me that it's a separate, special version of Epic Edit that can edit track backgrounds and maybe the tracks themselves, but not the color palettes. "Track background editing" would imply that it's a single program that can, among several other things, edit the track backgrounds.

"Edition" is clearly the wrong word.

It may be more ambiguous than "editing", but it's still not the wrong word from what I understand.
And I think it stands to reason that I'm going to add features after features and keep each of them around, rather than randomly trashing my work by making certain features only available in certain versions.

No matter, I'll just say editing from now on.

I'll have to try this out when I get time. This looks cool, I wonder if you could make some of them look like MkWii's tracks....

Oh boy... You got my hopes high that you had something interesting to say. You just had reply to the off topic crap you started over a year ago, yeah? I thought I made it clear this didn't belong here.

"Oh look, a thread about an SNES game editor! I'm just going to go there and ask for a NES emulator. Tee hee!"

*sigh*

If you understand, do not bother replying.

Nice editor. I like how you emphasize on adding support for pretty much all of the data that's needed to make a complete track (or maybe it is all of it... been a while since I played SMK).

Thanks. At this point, when it comes to track data, pretty much everything is supported except editing Ghost Valley pillars, which don't work the same way as other objects. It doesn't seem like a popular feature (no one ever asked for it), so it's not high on the priority list.

By the way, I just implemented undo/redo (for tile editing only), and now I'm gonna work on a color palette editor.

Nice. I haven't put undo/redo into my editor at all yet D: (working on the more important things still). The only major issue I see with not being able to edit Ghost Valley pillars is that they'll be showing in empty areas of the track (unless you leave the basic shape of the track alone). I have to agree though about it's place on the list of priorities. I'm glad you have such high support for editing. Other SMK editors bothered me a lot because while I could change the tiles, I'd still have objects lingering around and they'd end up in the way a lot of the time, the CPU would just drive into the walls, etc., and I just couldn't do shit about it (and I didn't want to get into a massive hacking job).

I wasn't so eager to do it, but in the end, it only took me 2 evenings of coding, so it was worth it. I had a look at Kawa's tutorial as a reference, and did something similar (although I used LinkLists rather than Stacks, as you can't enforce a size limit with Stacks).
I only implemented it for tile editing, as it'd be much harder to do it for every possible action, and it was only really needed for tile editing.

Pillars should only be visible if the track is set to use pillars (obviously; and it's a setting that can now be changed), *and* if the track theme is Ghost Valley or Rainbow Road (unless you modified the other themes to also have "empty" tiles). So they shouldn't be a problem, as you can easily get rid of them.

Anyway, glad you like the editor. I created it because I wasn't happy with existing editors either, and needed a complete editor to finish the SMK hack I was working on with a friend... The editor turned out great (and I'm still not done with it), but on the other hand, the hack development got stalled because of that. We started working on the SMK hack back in 2003, and I still don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. All that shit takes way too much time.

Ahh that's good. It's really been quite a while since I've messed around with SMK much. I didn't actually edit anything, just went over some of the main features in the editor for now. I'll check out the details when I feel a little more creative
