Cool. I'll let this preview bake for a week, as usual, and finally officially release it if nothing new comes up.

Testing so far, now bugs as of yet

Also I figured out how to make AI react to boost panels. They indeed need to be at speed 4. I tested as in, they worked on speed 4, and I changed it to speed 3, and it didn't worked anymore.

Also damn, I was reading the first pages of the thread for nostalgia purposes, and I noted that we managed to add 9 more pages to the topic in less that a month O.o

Cool. Although I don't plan to add more features, I want to aim for a polished, bug-free editor. I hate buggy abandoned software.

Maybe because it's one of the few active threads of this board left?
Well, good thing you revived this thread, or there'd be no new EE version.

Yeah, and nice thing that is open source, so another user can come in and add stuff

I noted more people are trying to hack SMK since the last time I checked. Perhaps we could even set a board to SMK hacking at one point :3

Yes. Sometimes a programmer spending 5 minutes to add or fix something can make life easier for many people. Kinda like how in Tile Molester, I was annoyed by the fact it wouldn't remember the last-used file path. Someone eventually picked up the program sources and added this feature.

It would be interesting to have numbers, although that's not possible. This board has dedicated forums for Super Mario RPG and Secret of Mana, but I don't know if these games are actually hacked more than SMK. Anyway, if an SMK forum was to be created, it would make sense to do it on a more active board. Maybe smwcentral or something.

Yeah, an exact would be nice.
Also, I dont know if its true, but as far as SMRPG hacking goes, its not that much, due to the complexity required to do a notable hack, and I have never heard of SOM hacking other than here.
Also, I actually stumbled upon recent SMK custom track videos, but unfortunately, its really hard to search for them, since MKW custom tracks are all over the place. I managed to find them by the suggestions on an actual SMK CT video.

Perhaps more notable hacks could help a bit.

They were created during phases when the respective fields were taking off and receiving a lot of hype (and, in the case of SMRPG, bad posters); with the current level of activity, it wouldn't be justified to create them, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to cause the upheaval that remerging them with other sections would cause. The ROM Hacking section does not seem to suffer from SMK activity, nor (as far as I can tell) vice versa at the moment.

So im trying to replace ghosts BG animation, and I found out that the animation is on the BG tiles. Reading the last posts, turns out they are just placeholders, and not the real ones, but further reading seems that the editor now supports replacing them.

So if im right, we can replace the namiation by replacing the frames on the BG?

Sorry if its obvious answer, but im a bit confused

Yes. Did you try it, and did it not work?

Well, if you back up your ROMs regularly, you can't screw anything up.

Yeah, I have like 15 now lol.

Also was testing battle tracks. Seems like the mode is hardcoded to make the grass tile behavior to be out of bounds. Its used for battle track 1.

Isn't grass always out of bounds, on Mario Circuit tracks?

Yes, but battle circuit 1 takes place on donut plains (and it doesnt fit all the track space), which doesn't have a out of bounds tile. I tested this because I added a grass tile on battle course 3, and it acted out of bounds.

Seems like another hackish feature by nintendo lol, like they couldnt bother duplication the grass on donut plain and give it an out of bounds.

I see. I couldn't double check the track theme as I was at work. Well, you are right then, it must be some kind of hack.

Good spot then gridattack.

I was thinking it's worth us creating a list of what we know we don't know still for SMK in your notes. It think it would help get some focus on working out the rest of the unknown data in the notes. For example we don't know where the little music tunes are stored for example, for each racer winning etc.

Once we have a what's still to find section, we can make a thread on a few rom hacking sites and see if we can recruit some interest?

Yeah, that could work. Maybe as in general info for stuff. It could help newbies know stuff beforehand. I can try linking here on my smk custom cup videos, since they seem to get constant views. Perhaps we can bring more people to the scene

I have a couple of questions and then I should be done asking. 1. Anyone know where the little mushroom icon's tile is for the title screen menus? I'm most likely overlooking it somehow. 2. Is it possible to have the pipe obstacle on the tracks have it's interaction set to make the player lose a coin when you drive into it? I'm thinking like when you bump into another racer.

1. I have no idea yet, since I havent hacked the title GFX.
2. Im sure Its not possible (without ASM). You can only use the behaviors listed on the editor (mole, fish, Thwomp, SThwomp, pipe...)
