Anyone ever play PSO? Holy hannah, what a great game. I wish PSU even held a candle to it. Got a Humar up to lvl 152 before I moved to Florida and lost my memory card for my GameCube. Sad, sad day.

Anyone still play (either PSO or PSU)? I've heard that they are shutting down the online servers and was wondering if anyone plays GC version on a private server still.

Shutting them down eh? I used to play PSO co-op with a dood on his gamecube.Had all kinds of fun with that. I bought the PSU version for ps2 but then when i found out you had to pay to play with custom built characters i returned it right off the bat. The main character looks so generic and I wanted to be able to choose what i wanted to be (ala PSO) anyway yeah the old ones good. The new ones dumb because it limits you too much unless you shell out more cash.

PSO/U has always been intended for online play. Complaining about the offline mode being restricted is a bit... silly.

That said, once you finish the story in PSU, you can play with your own character. Also, Ambition of the Illuminus (the expansion, although it can stand alone) allows that for story mode.

I play PSU and occasionally private server PSO:BB. Official PSO in the US has been dead for a year now, I believe.

EDIT: Stupid smiley.

Silly or not, why the heck should i have to play with some stupid looking red head kid when i could make a cool looking other character?? It just seems dumb. I don't play a lot of online game because at some point the shut down the server and then there goes all of your hard work. so blah. But as you were saying could you clarify, if i went out and bought Ambition of Illuminus I could play my own character throughout the whole story? Because If I can im probubly going to go get that.

For clarity's sake, Ambition of the Illuminus has you playing episode 2 (takes place about 3 months after the original's story mode?), which was previously only available by playing online. You play it exclusively as your own character.

Also, playing outside of the story is significantly better this time around. Regular PSU's extra mode (the one in which you could play as your own character; you may not have unlocked that) was extremely limited. This one's reasonably close to the online mode.
