For some reason, they have always been somewhat of an obsession of mine. On car trips as a kid, I would look out the window and read the numbers on the houses and other buildings to pass time. (If there were no numbers such as on a freeway, I would usually read road signs.)
Anyway, here are some questions: - What is the lowest and highest address you have lived at? - What are the lowest and highest addresses you have seen? - Have you ever seen any highly unusual numbers? The lowest house number I ever had was 815, which was our address in New Jersey when I was really young. The highest address I have ever had is 28965, where I live now. I live in the Detroit area which historically had the highest house numbers in the entire world. An address like "23701 Woodward Ave." is actually pretty typical, and something like 14 would be highly unusual. I have seen an address of 1 before. Streets in New Jersey were often numbered starting with 1 and I think it's the same for most normal (i.e., non-Midwestern) cities. The highest address was...crap, I don't remember. Something way up in the 6-digit range like 870601. The biggest addresses I've seen were in Ontario around Owen Sound. New Jersey had some reeeeally weird house numbers. They didn't always follow the normal rule of even addresses on one side and odd addresses on the other going up in sequence. I swear, one street had like 20-30 houses that were all either 238, 239, or 240 with letter suffixes in pretty much random order. Something like 238G, 238K, 238L, 239J, 238J, 240M, 239, 239P, 238Q. I can't remember what the other side was like. Our street there started with 28, 29, 30, then 321 through 325 on one side and 330-344 on the other, then a big gap, then a loop with 680-789 on the outside of the loop and 790-838 on the inside. Something like that anyway. Our first home in Niagara Falls, NY (when I was 6 years old) was on a really weird street as well...everything about it was just weird. Here is a diagram of the street: Basically we have the intersection of Tuscarora Rd. and Tuscarora Rd. Even though the street signs call that eastern portion (where I lived) "Blank Rd.", the mailing address was still "Tuscarora Rd." The addresses on the northwest portion are in the 5000-5999 range (increasing from north to south). On the south "Tuscarora Rd." portion, they are 4701-5099 (increasing from SOUTH to NORTH). On the Blank Rd. prtion, they are 5100-5299 (increasing from west to east), then 112, 113, 114, 115, 116 all on the same side of the road, then a dead end. Seriously, what moron came up with THAT scheme? It got worse, a nearby street had odd addresses on BOTH sides of the street (and no evens)! |

The lowest address I've ever lived at was 34, and the highest I've lived at is 2386.
The lowest and highest address I've seen: 0A, and something in the 24000s, respectively. I remember a 1713, and then 1713¼, followed by 1713½, and then 1715 in one area xd |

Some of them are long, but US streets are often numbered according to a Cartesian-like grid with (say) 1000 addresses to the mile rather than just 1, 3, 5, 7 and 2, 4, 6, 8. So if a street starts 20 miles north if the "X-axis", its lowest address may be 20000 or 20034 or something. Also, a lot of addresses are skipped because of this. A typical residential street around here has 10-50 numbers between each house (and the houses themselves are right next to each other) as in 21802, 21824, 21848, 21870, 21886, etc. Streets with larger commercial/industrial buildings often have 100-500 or more addresses separating adjacent buildings! |

whats fucked up is I can't even remember the address of this house
Old one was 1764, though. I have no idea what the highest and lowest I've seen is because I only pay attention to them if I'm trying to find a certain address, otherwise they're quite useless to me. ____________________ |

My current residence is less than 30. Sadly, it's still a double digit number.
My highest is somewhere in the ten-thousands, I don't remember what it was, but it was back when I lived in Michigan. |

Since I've only lived at two different places (apart from the garrison, but it didn't have a number), this should be fairly easy to answer. Currently living in 37, used to live at 58. Norwegian roads are rarely very long. My uncle lives at 112, but three or more digits are extremely uncommon. |

It's been awhile since I saw a three digit number. Streets aren't usually that long here...
Eh, and mine is 39 at home. My apartment is... 38. xD I don't live next to my family though, so it's just a coincident. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Well, I know one of the ones I lived at (107) started at 101, so it isn't very rare here... I've never seen a single-digit outside of businesses.
Oftentimes, the numbering is just plain screwy... it follows no real order -- here, it's 1-3-5-7-9 and 2-4-6-8-0 depending on what side of the street you're on; in ohter areas it goes up by 4s, 8s, or other rediculous numbers... ____________________ I dealt with it. |

My street isn't long either...it's just 2 buildings, numbered 28933 and 28965. In a normal place, they'd be 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 (they are both on the same side of the street). |

Pretty much the same 4 digit number for my street, 6000. Not really hard to remember.
My area code is 210. |

All of my addresses have been in the middle hundreds to the lower one thousand range. Although one of my friends lives on a street on 1 ___ Street. I can't remember the name of the street though. |

I live at a 4 now, and its a private road, so the only houses are 1-6. My neighbors across the street, therefor, have 1. Umm, I used to live at a 14, and this one road near my house stretches for miles so I've seen numbers in the 8000's. My ex lives on this road... he's like 6672 or something. I dont remember. |

I've lived at a 4 before, and there was a 1 on the same street. The highest I've lived at is 27051. I think 5 digits is the highest I've seen... 6 numbers is a little extreme. |

Lowest is 410, highest is 7965.
Coincidentally, those are the only two house numbers I've used. |

Flurry #&postrank& Lowest I lived at was 66, highest is 17510, I've been in a 345 and 3330 too ... then I've seen numbers ranging from 1 to about 20000, forgot exactly
The area I live in is full of those higher numbers, it ranges from 13000-14000 in one direction and 17000-18000 in the other (up to about 20000 farther, which is where I saw it) ... while other cities around have the usual low ranges, up to maybe 1000-2000 at most I've seen some 10000's in Montreal too, but it has some long streets ____________________ |
