Oh, lovely. A boring game such as WoW. I played the beta until level 7, when my patience ended with incredibly slow levelling. Really, there's no skill to it, and you could easily play another player vs. player game without throwing away 20 hours of time on levelling then countless hours more just to get lucky and get some special fucking equipment. Rather than actually having skill to beat someone, you just need a bit of skill and better equipment. It's stupid as fuck.

WoW was... okay. Definitely not worth how much I am paying... but then again, I'm not gonna cancel my account until I'm sure I hate it.

Right now though FFXI is winning the war.

Notes: WoW sucks because of the language barrier. Why can't I taunt my in-game enemies? This is why I love FFXI; I get to insult Galka, Elvaan, and anyone from Bastok and San d'Oria. VIVA LA WINDURST

The battle system, is kinda dull too. I like how in FFXI you get new menus and music that make it actually seem different from just running around the field. In WoW, fighting amounts to running around and firing the occasional spell or skill... pretty dull.

I warn you here and now, XI is no better.. in fact, it is probably worse in many a degree than WoW.. Yes, WoW gets boring over time (fairly quickly actually, least for me) but XI is a horribly frustrating game, and the community is a maddeningly strict one which loathe to ever try anything diverse or different.. (You'll always go to the same places to level, you'll never explore said places - you'll camp, you'll always follow through the same routine in every battle..)

God help you if you're a healer too.. you'll spend the rest of your days doing nothing but staring at HP bars.. And the difficulty ramp is absurd, requiring you to jump through so many freaking hoops as you progress for content that is mostly mandatory if you want to even try to have any fun\continue making any progress at all.. Yea, XI is novel in many ways and pretty fun at first.. but in the long run it just isn't worth it man, just not worth it. I wouldn't even bother with the warning 'cept I've known too many people who've had their lives drained away from that game.. people become addicted to it, but grow bitter at it.. they grow to loathe it, but can't seem to ever take my advice and put it down.. play it if you wish, but I thought it fair to toss that out there in any case.

You can, if you do it on a high rate private server

I never played World of Warcraft so I can't say much, but any online RPG can get addicting ... they all get really repetitive after a while but people still play forever, like I've been in Ragnarok Online for almost 3 years now

Agreed.

WoW has a game and no community, FFXI has a community and no game.

That's all I'll say for now.

After testing the game (guest pass), here is my review.
My summary, first come the good things:

- Neat graphics, at least. Although I never liked that style, I have to admit the map and objects are pretty neat drawn. It doesn'T require too much hardware power, just at least 1 or even more GB of RAM
- The beginning for new people is made up a lot better than in Guild Wars for example
- The basic idea of those missions with five or even forty people together - theoretically this sounds very interesting

The other side:

- Change. Really, I know you cannot create a type of single-player RPG for multiplayer (or is it possible?), the only things to do are to kill x monsters, collect y items and accquire new equipment

- Paying for support is okay, don't expect support and quality for nothing. But, what happens after you cancel your account ?
An offline game at least holds you some save files and you can return to the world whenever you want
- The community. Really, those "omfg, rofl, lolz"-people suck. Of course this doesn't include all players, but the people I encountered seemed to be ... very immature
- How can you do certain quests which require several hours of gameplay to kill certain enemies, if you have a life, friends and go to work/university/whatever ?
Do you really would have to sacrifice anything to see the high-level content or is it possible to get the best stuff with no 24/7 gaming ?
- I lost a good friend to WoW, so that also influences my opinion. I cannot deny that (concerns generally any MMORPG)
- It simply gets boring after a short amount of time. I uninstalled RO after level 15 and the first four days of test play and WoW after level 7.

So: World of Warcraft sucks for me
This is even good. So there will be (at least now) no opportunity to buy the game and lose friends, time or whatever and investing the time to play the game or any MMORPG only. So I even got Guild Wars and tested several other MMORPGs (also exotic ones like Xenepic, Talesweaver), but none was too interesting to me past the first few levels. Simply too dull.

People might say I have not seen any "good" thing yet at only level 7, as others say the game begins once you max out your character's level, but this isn't too interesting for me first having the need to go to max level and THEN getting the real "fun".

WoW kicks ass.
Surlent, your entire review is almost completey wrong.

First of all, when you cancel your account all of your players are kept by Blizzard for all of eternity, waiting for you to reactivate your account. They even gain Rest EXP while you are no paying. And those are not all quests, look at Thottbot.org sometime and look at several of the guests. They can be very unique and are not just kill, collect, and walk somewhere.

Also, if you play on an older server with mature members, then you won't get that OMFG LOLZ ROFLLFLFLFL problem. And certain quests that require several hours of gameplay to complete? There are not many of those to begin with, but noone said you cannot log out and continue the quest later. And yes, you can get some of the best gear in the game without playing 24/7. Theres this thing you should have learned about, it's called an auction house. Pick up a profession or two, do your profession and get monies (or quest for monies), then buy spectacular gear on the Auction House.
In fact, I've lived off of the Auction House items for a long time, and once your 60-70 then you can start doing really large instances (A rather hard run of a set scenario that only you and your party/raid group can use) for better gear.

And why would you lose friends? Somethings not right there, because I play for 10 hours a day mostly, and I still go out and play Warhammer with friends who don't play WoW and many other things.

AND AND AND you only played until level 7. How silly really, you got to try out things before you got a talent tree (level 10), before getting any good skills, stuck with crap equipment (enchanted equipment drops around level 10(green colored)), and when the game begins to merge to other areas with the opposing force and explore exciting areas with new and unique quests.

World of Warcraft has endless fun for me. I never do the same thing twice with the shear amount of replayability combined.
I have a 46 Night Elve Rogue (Plan on finishing), a 38 Undead Warlock, a 21 Draenei Priest (Plan on finishing), a 22 Blood Elf Mage, a 6 Draenei Hunter (Just started him with a friend), and my stepfather has several characters too on the same account. I only added that though to show that you can have unlimited characters on an account. I've been playing for two years also, so you should be able to trust me. World of Warcraft is a very enjoyable and yes, addicting game. But how do you define addiction? Playing Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess a whole lot and beating it within a week can be considered an addiction. If TP never ended like an MMO, people would still be playing it and you would call it an addiction too, but people would say its something simliar of a "Super Addiction". You can't pick and choose levels of addiction, you are either addicted or not. It's that simple.

Enjoy life, give WoW a shot, it even has a fucking storyline you can follow if you are in to that kind of thing. Thats right. WoW has a storyline that branches and does all kinds of cool things (Intervene with other races and such).

My rant is over.
