Funny, I was also thinking of an overhaul for SMB3. My hack would turn it into being New Super Mario Bros. NES. I got the idea after seeing this. Not only would the game be more like NSMB, It would have the original Mario 1 style. Wall Jump and Ground Pound would be added, an item slot also (I know there's a patch for that). The power-ups would have more animations to them so they look more "bouncy" like the newer Mario games.

Two power-ups would get replaced, the Tanooki Suit and Frog Suit. The Tanooki Suit is turned into the Blue Shell Suit, which turns Mario into a shell when the P-Meter is full, And the Frog Suit is turned into the Mini Mushroom, which makes Mario half fit in one 8x8 tile, he runs faster, jumps really high for his size, and can run on water as long as he doesn't stop, but he can only kill enemies with a ground-pound.

Also, just 'cause I really love Luigi and think he was under-used in the old days, I'll give him his own sprites, his special floaty jump, and a choice to play as him in 1P mode.

This idea is actually something I hope to work on, just posting it here

I was thinking that someone can give T&C Surf Design a Mario make over...

The gorilla can be Donkey Kong.

I think I have an idea as well. I talked about this in the other Kafuka.org board long ago, but I figured I'd talk about it here as well to get more opinions on it.

It's an idea for a SMW hack I call Super Mario's Televenture. In this one, Bowser has found a way to enter the TV world and use it to brainwash the entire Mushroom Kingdom so that he may rule, and it's up to Mario to stop him. He's joined by a cartoon character who helps him on his adventure in Luigi's place. They both have abilities unique to them, like Mario's spin jump which, of course, allows him to break blocks, and the toon's pogo stick which allows him to bypass hazards like spikes and Munchers, Ducktales style.

Mario would have to venture through 8 TV lands (which are called Stations from here on out) and defeat a Koopaling occupying it before reaching Bowser's domain.

Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings have taken control over 8 stations in the TV world. Each station has its own theme. They include Cartoon Station, Action Station, Edutainment Station, Rock Station, Fantasy Station, Horror Station, Sci-fi Station, and KTV (Koopa TeleVision) Station. There may also be some hidden stations that haven't been occupied by Bowser. The last world would be Bowser's Castle which in this game is so big, that it has its own map.

What do you think?

I have an idea: once I complete learning most of C, I'll make a Donkey Kong Land level editor, so I can make the first ever hack of it.

I'll figure out how to put Dixie Kong in there somewhere, don't worry

I got new idea.
Remember Kuja Killer's MegaMan 3 Improvement Patch?
Oh god, why am I even asking, you very probably know about that already and still remember about it.
So my idea is a MegaMan 2 Improvement Patch, but there is a catch.
MegaMan 2 Improvement will actually be a patch...for MegaMan 4!
That's right. With that improvement patch, you can now play MegaMan 2 under the engine of MegaMan 4, complete with its benefits like Charge Shots and Sliding.
All 8 weapons and all 3 items will be there, but it will also include Rush Coil and Rush Search.

Here is what I have planned out so far in terms of replacement:
SkullMan -> WoodMan
DrillMan -> CrashMan
BrightMan -> FlashMan
PharaohMan -> HeatMan
ToadMan -> BubbleMan
DiveMan -> QuickMan
RingMan -> MetalMan
DustMan -> AirMan

Rush Jet -> Item-2
Balloon -> Item-1
Wire -> Item-3
Rush Marine -> Rush Search

So...what do you guys think?

Maybe. It would be good to give it a try though.

Also, what patch format do you use for your ROMs? I read something on romhacking.net that IPS can store the whole ROM inside it anyway.

I only use IPS, because that's the only thing I know and the only thing I want to know.
It's also the only thing I can actively work with.

Yep, under a specific size, but it doesn't really matter when we are talking about NES ROMs. You just have to use an empty file as the unmodded rom, and a patched rom as the modded when creating the IPS file. You have created an IPS file that has the whole ROM file in it. You can now either patch an empty file with it, or remove the unneeded data with a Hex editor, creating a working ROM file.
However, I dunno if it can be considered as a ROM this way or not. It may not be an actual ROM, but it still is.

I used to use the IPS patching format, but the BPS patching format used by the beat utility by byuu is excellent. Following my release of Cosmic Balloon Assault, I decided that I would be sticking with BPS from now on.

If a ROM file is expanded and entire sections of data are moved, BPS won't store them in its patch file like the IPS patching format will do with patch creation.
Since I expanded the size of the Balloon Fight ROM for my hack, this was a necessary step to take.

If you aren't just moving large, unchanged sections of the original game in your hack, then IPS does work great and it's very easy to work with. However, you shouldn't necessarily limit yourself to only IPS either, although it depends on what you're looking for, too.

I really like this idea, I think it's something you should work on. A good story - if you have done anything so far could you show me a few screenshots and such? =)

Make sure to share it with us at board2

Well, I haven't gotten anything done yet. This is only a concept idea at this point. But I would like to to open up a discussion thread for it on this site.

EDIT: Actually, I was kinda fiddling around with some sprites that inspired the idea in the first place. Here's the link to a set: Link

Here's a hack idea!

There is a Ghostbusers 1 and 2 on the NES from Activision, right? Okay you may be thinking that I should replace the male into female sprites. Actually I had something in mind. How about making a Ghostbusters game on the female characters based off the Mega Man engine. Can you swap graphics for Mega Man for each level? I was thinking about making a butchered game with no story and ridiculous original ideas that is not based on the actual 2016 reboot movie.

Please no. I hate absolutely every single thing about the new Ghostbusters movie, and a game based around it would only make it WORSE!

I never thought I would say it, but...your idea is objectively bad...sorry...

I was told Terminator 3 was worse than the new Ghost Busters by someone who has watched it.
Terminator 3 was a horrible film (-.-)

So don't do it, a bad film for a good hacker~

Actually, I watched the trailer, it looked terrible ()
But movies are now, they are becoming bad cash grabs (-.-)

For the NES library from one of AVGN quotes.

That's interesting because the movie Ghostbusters 2 is definitely inferior to the first one. So I guess the formula works like this! A GOOD movie equals, a shitty fucking (Ghostbusters) game BUT a not so good movie equals a (Ghostbusters 2 Activision) game that's not as shitty.

To me, the 2016 Ghostbusters movie is not so good with too many bad jokes so I was surprised that it's the top #2 at the box office. I am still going to attempt to make a 8-Bit Ghostbusters 2016 game based on the Megaman engine.

I'd like to see a City Connection hack, calling it GTA San Andreas. You're in a green low rider and the LSPD chases you all over the world while you paint the streets green showing off the Grove Street colors, and the cat can be Officer Tenpenny...

Long ago there was a hack that turned cherries in SMB2 into coins. Seems like a simple enough hack. It should be revisited.

Has a big fan base, along with it people think it was going to be good and a result are disappointed.
