I think it should be done. I wish you had a computer so you could do that hack or such, but it's annoying you can't, right?

Yeah, hopefully in a few years I'll get my own computer and make some of the best hacks ever (I would still be fine if someone used this idea, I've got tons and tons of hack ideas to spare)

I would like to see Super Smash Bros. for the SNES. There are several SSB fangames, but not one actual demake of it.

It would be awesome to have Mario, Ness, Kirby, Sonic, Megaman X, and other characters using their original sprites. There would be some levels from SSB, like Dream Land, Brinstar, the Mushroom Kingdom, and Onett, just to name a few. There would also be final smashes from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, like Link's Triforce Slash or Ness's PK Starstorm, as well as Pokéballs and other power-ups.

Check over at smwcentral, I believe someone had came up with that idea and begin working on it.
I forget who because I only took a quick glance at the thread and forgot it.

I found a topic for a SSB idea on SMWcentral, but the topic was five years old, so I guess that ain't happening.

Also, I had another idea. Mario Maker NES (or SNES). It would have the tools to make new levels in SMB or SMB3 styles, no SMB2U because that's almost not a Mario game. You could do things that don't normally happen in Mario games, like place enemies inside question boxes, or make pipes and cannons dispense power-ups, and there would be new items and enemies too. You could make different types of levels, like easy levels, kaizo levels, or boss rush levels too. you could even do something like recreate Metroid in a Mario map using pipes and such, and there would be settings where you can't lose power-ups, but you could still die from getting hit too many times. And there would be a thread on a forum where people could share their save files so you can play their levels on an emulator. This might be too advanced for an NES, but I bet an SNES could pull this off.

Not too long ago someone posted at SMWCentral in the ASM showoff thread (IIRC) a proof of concept where they were did a Sonic Debug mode-like thing and joked that they got Mario Maker before anyone else.

Anyway, point being, someone has already done some work on what could become a Mario Maker type of thing. I hope it get's somewhere, because that would be rad, though I don't really think it would be nearly as smooth as the real Mario Maker.

No Mario Maker or such will be as good as Lunar Magic (or other good ROM-Hacking tools), even the Wikipedia article for it says it's the best ROM hacking tool of all time.

Who cares if something is official? ROM-Hacking makes things even better.

Mario Maker is just a rip-off... even if it's official... In 2009, Pouetpu-games.com released Super Mario Flash (Level Editor), you can share your levels, load others' and stuff (I made some for no reason). Oh yeah, but this isn't ROM-hacking stuff. But hey, it has some secrets!

I'm sure most people knew that already, MM is for kids who don't know what the hell ROM Hacking and board2 are.

I had another idea for a hack, NES Remix, for the NES. The game would be just like NES Remix for the Wii-U, with all the tiny segments from the games that you can play seperately, and possibly different modes, like all-boss mode, where the game makes you fight random bosses from the games, or a random mode, like WarioWare, but with NES games. I guess that an NES wouldn't be able to pull this off though, but I feel like it would be a cool hack if it could be made, especially if you want to play a certain part of a game, or fight a certain boss, but don't really want to play the game up to that point.

Some of your ideas seem suited for making a new game out of, instead of a ROM-Hack, which is nice.

Another, even more insane idea I had just a minute ago combines my Super Mario Crossover idea with NES remix. In NES Remix for the Wii-U, there are certain parts where you can play as characters in games they aren't normally in, like playing as Kirby in a Super Mario Bros. styled level. This led me to have an insane idea.

I call this idea the NES Crossover Pack. The game would have four games: Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Metroid, and Kirby's Adventure. There would be four playable characters for each game: Mario, Samus, Kirby, and Link. you could play Metroid as Kirby, Super Mario Bros. 3 as Link, and so on.

Power-ups in each game would behave differently for each character. For example, getting the Morph Ball in Metroid as Kirby would give him the Wheel power, which would get put in an inventory screen so you could access it at any time, or killing enemies in Kirby's Adventure as Mario would drop power-ups like ice flowers and such.

If this is possible, this would take a MONUMENTAL amount of time, effort, and skill to make, but I just thought it would be cool to put this idea here.

So kind of like a "Super Smash Bros" for the NES? sounds cool.

Would be nice indeed. There's an accurate pirate of Street Fighter II actually so it would probably to be possible make an SSBB for NES.

Its already been done, although many people don't like it much I however do.
I remember back in 1997 in highschool, one of my classmates brought his zip disks over.
Copied over some emulators and that, our home room teacher let us play for 20 minutes.

I don't know who made that, but if they are still alive you could ask permission if you could use it for a base.
You would need to update the gfx, the text atleast have good asm skills to rewire it for the way you want it to play.
That and street fighter 2 turbo for the gameboy would do also.

To be honest, the NES crossover pack idea isn't meant to be like SSB, although I would like to make an SSB hack in the future. the idea is just to make certain games playable as characters from other games, like playing as Kirby in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Also, another idea, one I have dibs on, just in case. I'm making a Mega Man hack that has Samus as the main character. So I thought, "How come Mega Man only uses the powers of the Robot Masters? What if the game had more temporary weapons like Kirby?". Then I had an idea for the Scan ability. Basically, the ability is that Mega Man scans an enemy in front of him, and can use their power for a bit, possibly until a timer or the ammo runs out.

For example, scanning a Mettaur would give 2x defense for, say, thirty seconds, and scanning a Robot Master would let you use their power against them, like gaining the Quick Boomerang temporarily while fighting Quick Man. Of course, the normal powers would still be permanent upgrades.

I know you mean well, but let Nintendo handle that department until they stop producing for it. :/
http://nesremix.nintendo.com/

I like your idea alot, however I think you may need a team to work on it and set production and goal line for one year.

I also think its about time you get a netbook so you can expand pass stabbing at a tablet/phone to do yoour hacking.
Its been a long time since I've ran into someone else who started out with mostly nothing and was a pure geek/nerd.

To be honest, I'm treating ROM-hacking the way I treat playing The Legend of Zelda. This tablet is my crappy little wooden sword, but once I get good at using it, I'll hopefully get a PC, which is like the Golden Master Sword of ROM-hacking.

I think of it like this: Nintendo and Capcom probably made these games using something with less processing power than an Android tablet, so compared to them, I've got it bad.

I do agree I probably need a team, I'm still mostly in the concept phase right now, as well as getting acustomed to using my utilities. I'm also going to learn ASM, which will really make up for having limited equipment. And yeah, I'm a total nerd, which might help in my ROM-hacking endeavors

Also, just 'cause this is an idea thread, and I'm filled to the brim with ideas, here's one: I want a Sonic the Hedgehog hack where when Sonic runs into a loop, instead of seeing him go upside-down, the whole freakin' level spins upside-down. It could make for some truly mind-bending Sonic levels. it probably could be pulled off if a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was ported to the 32X or Sega CD.

Let's ask the Termingamer's English Dictionary for the term 'nerd':

nerd (adj)

1. someone boring, and clever in lots of things

2. someone who knows about computers a lot

BOTH MEANINGS include: have issues with offline communication

I don't think you fit into this word. Geek is probably a nicer word to use here, because that doesn't neccessarily mean you have communication difficulties (however I don't know).

Nice comparison too. Anyway, I think Nintendo should actually apply you for their new concepts, you have a lot of good ideas for hacks and new games altogether.

----------------

I have an idea, but not a good one: A hack of SMB3 that basically transforms the game into DKC2. I have no idea on how to do this, but it might be possible if there's a lot of rewritten code.

There's already several pirates of DKC1 on NES, we need DKC2 in NES.
