I have seen some bosses, and to be frank, they are no fun to fight.

They are either hard to hit.. (Fast, or overtly tight shooting space)

Or have way too much firepower.. (3 bullet shots = 400 damage X 3 = 1200 = equivilent of a level 1 energy level player 1 normal ship.

While others can be just plain ridiculous! (TENTACLE RAPE, SONIC WAVE OVERUSE, PERMABURNERS IN EVERY CORRIDOR, ETC)

I'm going to make a little tutorial in making a simple boss that is fair and square inEXTREME mode; because that's the mode I use.

Keep in mind that this is for new editors that have no idea what 'balanced' is.

Making bosses is not about making invincible, unstoppable, destructive rampage machines that a player cannot defeat easily. It is about making fun to destroy bosses that are a balance.

I'll put the steps ASAP..

STEP 1 : Your workspace

A non-messy workplace is an essential for making a boss. You should maximize the editor and make the Edit Window as large as possible.

There are many essential tools in Fraxy.
Open the link and observe.
http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/1613/workspacekz0.png

1: This is your file saving and loading buttons. This tool is obviously VERY important.

2:This counts how many parts you have on your creation. This includes plates, cores, decorations, effectors, weapons, etc.

3:This panel helps with precision and testing purposes. There are six buttons.

-The center button, which instantly puts your view into the exact center of the edit window.
-The grid button, which shows a grid to help with creation size precision.
-The mouse button, which shows the exact pixel coordinates your mouse is at.
-The ID button, which shows the order of which part was added.
-The target button, which will make your target show all of the time
-And the alpha button, which I have no idea what it is for yet.

4:This panel helps with testing purposes and viewing the way objects will act. There are three buttons.

-The detail button, which shows basic details.
-The event button, which shows event related things. (variables, etc)
-And the action button, which shows the behaviour set of the part.

5:This panel helps with testing and observing the movement and behaviour of parts. This is a very helpful panel. There are four buttons.

-The stop, and play buttons, which toggles whether or not the creation can move.
-The reset button, which resets everything to the way it was before movement occured.
-And the wait button, which attempts to increase the FPS in order to test more quickly.

6:This is a 'snooze' setting that will automatically turn off movement at that exact frame.

7:This is for testing different behaviours on different ranks.

8:This is a target. Any homing and aim-at-player targeting parts will aim at this. You can move it around by holding onto the T key and dragging your mouse around.

9:This shows how many frames the creation has been running for.

10: Did I skip 10?!

11:This is the parts list. This is where you add parts, test parenting, and add events.

Phew, that's a load. The next step will come soon..
