Everyone probably have heard about Dwarf Fortress by now.

And some of you might heard about a succession game done with DF, which got popular after it was done over at the somethingawful with the fortress Boatmurdered. Each person plays a fortress for about a year, and turns the game over to the next person when he's done with his year.

Just checking on how many who would be interested in a such game, and what parameters that it would use.

I'd be interested. IF so, I'd have to recommend we start somewhere relatively peaceful, and with an abundance of resources. I'd recommend somewhere heavily forested; magma/iron/etc is nice but heavily forested sections are much easier in the early game.

Of course, forested + Magma is best, but that's incredibly rare...

Could always go for an area with magma + underground water feature.

That way you can make artificial forests easily as far I know.

While I'm remarkably bad with the game, I suppose being particularly good is not a primary focus, so count me in.

So who would start off the game? I am good with the game, but I tend to always forget something when i'm starting a fortress. In my last game, I forgot to take a stonecrafter with me.

I like to always have one dedicated guy for some tasks, such as architecture and don't mind him idling otherwise. It's usually a noble too.

Blackhole89: As long you have a somewhat idea how things works in the game, you should survive well enough.

I can start, if nobody has any objections. Standard 1-year ruleset?

I guess, just make sure to have a witty name for the fortress.

And I want some features and sand. My past fortresses never been on a area with sand on. :/

Okay, world Information:

The Portentous Realm, where we find The Whimsical Continents.

Here's where we will start: A river, heavily forested and with magma, sand and flux. There's probably iron down here somewhere too. No other HFS* though.

Our Civilization is The Palisade of Prestige, and our group name is The Wordy Tool.

The Fortress Name is Paintsplatter. I'll have more information up on the dwarves in a bit. Suggestions on what to take with us?

*HFS, or Hidden Fun Stuff refers to specific geographical constructs that can appear in a world. HFS includes
Spoiler:
Chasms, Underground rivers and pools, Demon Pits (!!), Magma Pools, and other things

Spoiler:
Shame about the lack of adamantium, but I guess it would just lead to someone kill the fortress as soon he comes across the demon pits...

Stonecrafter, a mason, a miner, farmer with cooking, farmer with brewing, a starting "leader" with architectural skills. For stuff to take with us, it would be just... a lot of wood and food I guess. The rest can be easily made or traded. :p

Just something along those lines should work.

Okay, done my turn. There's been a bit of work done on the fort, so I'll list it out.

A) the fort has been walled in, and a trade depot built. There's a section where traps could go if anyone has the motivation.

B) There's a several-Z-level tower to the fort's west. No idea, it just seemed dwarvenly to have a big useless tower there.

Underground, theres a bit more. There's an accepably decent bedroom/dining room setup, though it could be much improved. The farm is split into four sections, and they've all been set for year-round production. The magma's been found, and there's plenty of sand on the surface, perhaps a glass industry is in order? We lost one farmer due to fire imps, but other than that it's all been fairly smooth sailing. I'll post the save once I have somewhere to upload it.

Ah; I was wondering why you didn't upload it to the board2 uploader, then realized maybe they were too large, so I figured I'd ask and make sure.

I would join, but I've never played DF. I doubt I'd be that good at it.

Even then, my computer probably lacks the RAM to successfully run it.

As long you have at least 256 MB of RAM, you should be able to run it fine memory wise.

Hell you can probably get away with 128 MB ram or so. I do know that DF tend to stay around 100 mb in terms of memory usage.

Eh. Maybe I'll try it out later.

I'll see if I can do the game any justice, and if I'm remotely any good, I'll join if this goes anywhere by then.

I'm going to download it once I get back to my regular computer in a little bit. I'll start my own fortress and play for a few years, and see how I do.

I'll be sure to nag you guys about what to do whenever I get the chance to in IRC.
