I know I'm a few days late with this, but only because I been busy playing it.

Anyway, the translation can be fetched from the Offical translation project website. It's a fun RPG, bit more challenging than Mother2/Earthbound and... bit on the darker side too.

The translation is welldone. It's faithful for the most part, although some jokes and puns were changed a bit to make more sense in the English language (such as the charcther Yokuba being renamed to Fassad). So unlike many other fanmade translations, it dosen't feel like the game is translated from Japanese when you play it.

Bit more challenging and darker? Good. That might convince me to play it sometime.

Yeah, its more challenging. I've actually had to level up some before fighting a boss sometimes.

I should also point out that the game, unlike Earthbound, is actually fun. I almost want to play through it again, but then don't.

Epic manly tears will be shed at the finale. If you get there and then say you didn't cry then you will be speaking dirty whore lies.

I'm really excited about this game. I've been running into problems with Mac emulators (they keep crashing) so I need to get around to getting my PC set up, or install Windows on my laptop. The beginning shows a lot of promise.

Oh it had an interesting plot and was worth playing through just for plot but come on, its gameplay was bog standard turn-based RPG ass.

It's lack of random encounters still make me think way higher of it than the average RPG. I hate random encounters.

The battle mechanic is not really that different from Mother 2 (Earthbound), but it seems like it's more important now to keep track of weaknesses and strenghts of an enemy. Then I need to play through Mother 2 (Earthbound) and perhaps Mother 1 again.

Never Mother

That game was terrible

Mother 3 - Awesome
Mother 2 - Entirely too dated
Mother - Terrible

I'm planning to play through Mother 1 and 2 again.

...I probably use that hack of Mother 1 that doubles the exp of enemies, just to halve the treadmill involved.

Got a GBA emulator running at full speed on a virtual windows machine, so now I can play the game without it locking up every few minutes. Awesome so far. I've gotten a few combos even though the audio's ~ half a second behind just by hitting the button regularly; I don't know exactly how it's supposed to work, or if I'd do much better if I could hear the music in time, but I got up to 7 hits one time.

Finished the first chapter, I think.
Spoiler:
Wifey dying took me by surprise, and Flint flipping out and beating people was believable, touching, and completely awesome. Way better written and more effective than Aeris's death imo

(yeah I forgot her name, I was playing it late last night and didn't get much sleep. deal with it)

Well, it is supposedly a bit easier for people who are running it on the real thing. I went through the whole game without mastering combos, though I did hit the max possible numbers of them once.

Spoiler:
Amusingly, part of the scene from Flint learning about Hinawa's death can be seen on screenshots from the Mother 64 version, but only the part where the guy says "I have good news and bad news" and a screenshot of Flint being really pissed off. Ironically, this wasn't known until Mother 3 was released though, since it wasn't obvious from the screenshots alone.
