The ToTM contests was an idea started up on the 1st Compendium starting from May 2008 and going on till August when we moved to the 2nd Compendium. There we had additional contests till Sept with the Naked Core theme.
What exactly is this contest? It's simple. A theme is suggested by posters for the next month and if an idea becomes popular, that's the theme for next month. Each theme has certain criteria that have to be met or else it is disqualified. The contests are presided by a panel of judges that are listed here as well as the rules, the grading system, and all of the previous themes. We tried to get a real prize for winning, but so far it has come down to bragging rights.
Even with that though, the ToTMs are a great chance to show off your skills and create awesome bosses.
Hopefully, that explanation gave some insight into the ToTM contest.
Here is a list of all of the previous themes and months:
May 2008 - Star Wars - Make something resembling Star Wars craft.
June 2008 - 5 Parts - Create something using only one Core and four additional parts.
July 2008 - Fireworks Display - Create a fancy fireworks show and have it last at least 3 minutes. The creation didn't have to be playable.
August 2008 - Final Boss - Create a boss that would be of final level caliber.
September 2008 - Naked Core - The only visible part allowed is a single Core. All other parts must be hidden.

"Hello extremely! I hope you like to *play*. Some *campers* are not so good for *games*. Is it time for *playing* yet?"
Asker: How do I remove the border on a GroupBox in .NET?
Answer: Use a panel instead?
Asker: Gee, thanks @$$.
