Before that the emulators and his savestates exist, before you could change the games with your computer, when you played 15 or 20 years ago, When you broke your control , when your liver almost explode out because the anger and impotence when you can't to pass these stupid levels in the old games, to all those take classes in the old school I have a question for you ....

Which was your hardest video game?

If you are interested in the mine were:

Battletoads NES
Ninja Gaiden NES
Contra NES (without the cheat )
SMB2 NES (the japanese version)

The hardest NES game that comes to mind was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You had to really practice at that game to get through it.

I'll just list hard parts in games:
Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels
I never passed level 4-1 (yes, THAT spring )
Alundra
Never got out of first town
Super Mario Bros 3
Took me a lot of time to finish the last level. I even cried of anger. My dad wasn't pleased
Goldeneye 007
Facility in 2:00 to get Invincibility? I never did it. I used that cheat that came out 5 years later or so.
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
Level 2.
Secret of Evermore
Never got out of prehistory
Mega Man X3
I sucked at it
Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat II, Killer Instinct
Couldn't beat Bison/Shao Khan/Eyedol
Brainlord
Couldn't do shit

My problem with RPGs was that back then I didn't know english.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but my hardest game as a child was Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Loved the game, but it took forever to get anywhere. I remember the excitement when I first got a game genie...

Otherwise, some of the levels on Lemmings were a serious test of my patience...

Savestates are for losers, I still don't use 'em.

Anyway 15 to 20 years ago, probably Contra, TMNT, and some shitty TNG game for Genesis (i didn't own an assload of games, so I tried getting through it anyway).

Also there's a part in Quake II that I never passed until recently. whee

I remember when I was young that I sucked so badly at Super Mario World that I had to ask my Mom to help. The farthest either one of us got was to the Butter Bridge.

I remember playing ALttP when I was younger, but I never beat it. I managed to beat most of the Dark World dungeons, but didn't know what to do.

Another SNES gave I have is Imperium, which is a fairly mediocre shmup. I've never gotten past the second stage, and I don't feel like trying.

Although I played it rather recently, I recently beat the NES game Metal Storm without saving states (except in the place of passwords). It's absolutely brutal yet brilliant in places, though I'll never be able to complete expert mode. Never.

I actually managed to get it + every cheat in the game.

I was so obsessed with unlocking the cheats. Ironically, I barely used that cheat after I unlocked it.

And easy, Batman for NES is probably the hardest game I owned. I barely saw half of the game for the longest time, but I got around finishing it sometime last year after digging out my old NES.

Metal Storm <3 I need to go ahead and finish it, I wish I owned the system so I could play it the way it's meant to be played.

Little Nemo the Dream Master as of now

But in the past, I have to say possibly Aladdin for the Genesis I remember having trouble with. Donkey Kong Country too, (all 3 of them)

Seeing as that I don't own too many hard games, I would have to say The Lion King on SNES.

Goldeneye 007 is not exactly nostalgic, though...
I think Battletoads gets the Pole Position. Shit, we broke controllers playing that game...
Add to that Cobra Triangle, Zelda II of course, and Castlevania...

Battletoads last three levels. That was hardcore, even using a Game-Genie.

Atari's Megamania (quite addictive) also made me break a few controllers (in later levels).

Also, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but that game doesn't count because, well, fuck that game.
