Thanks to coding help from Kawa, I got an improved version of my old ProtoBoard post layout here. I still have to upload an avatar though.

It would be nice if we could also have minipics here, like there were on Protoboard (small icons in front of someone's name), is that possible?

Like they were on the old AcmlmBoard codebase, you mean?

Yeah like that, I wonder why it is rewritten?

Last I heard, the three people with code access are blackhole89, Sukasa, and Ailure. Sukasa I'm not sure about, Ailure doesn't know much about PHP, so that just leaves blackhole89 to answer your question.

I wish you had been more specific than that. Nobody on ProtoBoard ever complained. Anyway, I asked some people what you could mean, and they said the frame borders might be too bright and trippy. So I will change that now to a less bright frame in Commodore 64 colours.

I'd say that background picture is the problem. It's small, weird and doesn't tile.

As for minipics, what's the general opinion on them? I, for my part, would consider them a somewhat unnecessary/bloatish feature...

True, true, I don't really like the sharp edges of that tiling either...
Since there is also a weird cat right outside the frame, I think I will make another background tile, and for now remove the current one.

minipics are a pretty cool code insertion tool as I recall

Also I don't see the point in them.

I don't see the point of the following features:
- Online Users (this kills privacy)
- Calendar (what computer nowadays does not have a calendar??)
- Active Users (this will just cause spam)
- Latest posts (as if one can't simply look at the forums and check for new posts)
- Stats (it's dangerous to have users know the exact space the board is using on the db. Also it's unprofessional)
- Uploader (this is a message board for christ's sake, no need for an uploader)

Those are just from the top links. I believe the quote post feature is kinda useless too, since we can simply type it all up or just copy & paste.

I hereby ask those useless features removed, and have the board2 system be a message board system that has ONLY post features, since this is what makes a message board.

EDIT: Please maintain the RPG system, seeing as, an useless shop system is way more useful than, pftt, "mini-pictures"!

I am using the quote feature now, I find it quite handy. I find the RPG system useless.
If the Online Users feature is removed then this will cause the minipics to be useless as well.

Don't pay attention to knuck. He's just trolling.

Stark: Taking precautions against the usual minipicture-related exploits wouldn't be the problem...

If you allow the uploading of avatars how is a minipic any more vulnerable? Is it because they're typically animated gifs?

Uploading is much less problematic than allowing users to link them in, simply because the URL could be set to just about anything.

Examples:

Minipic: http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/admin.php?action=deletefuckingeverything
Minipic: http://jul.rustedlogic.net/admin.php?action=deletefuckingeverything
Minipic: http://www.kiddieprons.com/~fbi/

Then uh... have people upload them then...

Course then I'd potentially miss out on fun things like being randomly adminned for an hour or so.

I'm sorry to know you didn't notice my post was pure sarcasm was pointing out the current coder's (ok I'll be honest, every coder other than acmlm used those excuses) unwillingness to add any new features on the basis that it'd be "bloat" or "useless". I believe minipics are part of acmlmboards as much as post layouts are, however it's quite obvious that acmlmboards have lost their identity already.

Do you actually use GET variables for that sort of thing?

If you're really that worried you might put in an "upload minipic" feature instead. Really, loads of useless images on every page are what make Acmlmboards unique. And I mean that in a good way.

An Acmlmboard, with good security? Madness! What kind of fool are you?!

We already have an uploader, bh could just add a minipic category and have people upload them there.
