Very Simple: What's your favorite movie, and why?
The "why" part is very important. ____________________ "I'd like to confuse bok choy with cabbage." |

At the moment, mine is Shaolin Soccer. Reasons I like it are because soccer is the only sport I honestly like. And it is really funny!!
It also has a lot of really cool special effects. Cheesy, but cool. |

I just saw the Godfather. Enough said... no wait, you wanted a why. LOL
Here Goes-- I love Al Pacino's acting because let's face it he's one of the best actors around, I am amazingly touched by Marlon Brando (which is something I didn't expect- I thought this movie would be more about "COOLL LOOK WHAT THAT GANGSTER'S DOING!" but it really was a sad movie). Um also, the filmmaking was wonderful and I can clearly see why it's a classic and one of the top 3 movies of all time. a few close runners up: Scarface_Again, Al Pacino FTW (in fact, lets lump scent of a woman and heat in there too) Daria: Is It College Yet?_Well, you've all seen my avatar... I'm a little obsessed ok? and The Back to the Future Trilogy_ I was raised on it... it was amazing. Michael J Fox was my first ever celebrity crush. |

Well, my Grandpa had me watch Four Brothers last summer while we were in Canada.
That movie just flat out kicked ass. The suspense and emotion that's in the movie keeps you wonder what happens next, and the action is just great. I like the reason they are going after the main guy Victor Sweet, to avenge their adoptive mother. It was cool how she was this sweet old lady that pulled them off the street to take care of them yet she was strict and taught them how to act right. She reminded me of a couple of my Grandmothers. The actors in the movie were great too. I ended up watching it a few more times, and I'll probably watch it more when I show my friends the movie. If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend it. |

Little Miss Sunshine
-It's just one of those movies. Incredibly original. The characters are funny, easy to relate to, and lovable. The story is incredibly amusing, and yet it sucks you in all the way until the end. The blend of people in the movie make it that much better -- The drug addict grandpa, the gay uncle, the superstar little girl, the mute-by-choice teenage brother, the obsessive, failure father, and the stressed out mom. You honestly just have to see this movie and you'll understand why I love it. Garden State -You really fall in love with the characters in this movie. Andrew, played by Zach Braff (who i love <3), suffers from depression and has been given extreme doses of Lithium to control it. Because of this, his life is a disaster -- He's never really there, you know? But upon returning to his home town, he decides to end his Lithium treatment, and he finally realizes what he's been missing. His return to normal life is beautiful, and of course it is coupled with a lovely girl that truly does change his life. This movie just makes me happy, plain and simple. Ghost World -It's about two best friends, girls, that just graduated high school. It's about all those experiences we go through while transitioning into adulthood, taking on responsibilities, and losing friends that we once loved. It's very unique, and borderline weird... but I love it. The Rocky Horror Picture Show -It celebrates the differences in all of us! And it does so in a hilarious musical. CLASSIC. Pulp Fiction -A Quentin Tarantino movie. Starring Uma Thurman. Mmmm. If you haven't seen this movie, you really should. |

Top 5:
5. Monty Python and the Holy Grail Basically when gaging how funny a movie was, I just add up the seconds I spend unable to breathe from laughing so hard. This probably would have been number 2 if the second half was a funny as the first. 4. Crash Just a great movie about people dealing prejudice. The characters are all very real multidimensional, and the each dimension is slowly revealed to the viewer, and often to the character them self. 3. Schindler's List What makes this movie great is that its not just a sad movie. Anybody can make a sad movie, especially one about the Holocaust. It shows one horrible atrocity after another. Mass executions and humiliation, and repetitive senseless murder, but just when you think there's no hope for humanity, it shows something different. 2. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie "Put the mens room in the tower! What was I thinking!" "In to the weeny-mobile! Weenyman away!" "Other people need to use this ladder you know" "Normal view!... normal view!... normal view!" 1. Pulp Fiction This holds the number one spot by considerable margin. Just a perfectly crafted dark comedy. It manages to simultaneously be deep and meaningful and shallow and gratuitous. ____________________ "I'd like to confuse bok choy with cabbage." |

The Departed. Now that was some good stuff. Great performances from pretty much everybody. My favorite is Alec Baldwin's character...."I'm gonna get a smoke, you wanna join me, what you don't smoke, what are you one of those health freaks, go fuck yourself."
Wahlberg, equally impressive with his put downs and such. Also, has anyone seen The Prestige. Oh my lord is that movie fucking bad ass! And like NO one has seen it. After you've seen it once and seen the all the twists and secrets, watch it again. Its unbelievable, but just about every single line of dialogue has some hidden meaning or foreshadows something later in the movie or can be interpreted in multiple ways that all make perfect sense. Great filmmaking. |

Posted by AlexAR A good two choices, I must say. ATM: The Departed is like number 2, and The Big Lebowski is number one. If you haven't seen TBL...I say to you: what are you doing reading this post? Go rent it NOW. |

I'm not that big a fan of Japanese animation as a vastly legitimate source of film. Most anime scores somewhere inbetween Ed Woods and Michael Bay in terms of how much it makes me want to kill myself. But I'm not going to lie one moment. Grave of the Fireflies is a Japanese response to the ideas put forward in the novel Slaughterhouse V. There is no way around that. It is distinctly painful and shows the definitive cultural differences between Anglo-American idealization and realization of the pain of a conflict and the Japanese views. A very important film.
I can't lie about one thing though. Anything that Wes Andersen has touched is probably going to be something akin to complete brilliance. Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic and all those. I adore those movies. Of course, he isn't without those that easily match and surpass him in similar styles. Take for instance the movie "The Squid and The Whale". Fucking brilliant. A standard drama with extremely deep undertones of dark comedy. Ikiru by Akira Kurosawa is probably one of those ultimate movies. It is deeply touching. What is more important is that it is basically a textbook example of what a movie should be. I mean, the average audience going slack jawed idiot isn't going to get it, but that is why shitty humans like Michael Bay and Spielberg are allowed to make movies. |

1.) The Punisher
-I feel like I know the characters that live in the apartment and the Punisher is vengeful, yet merciful as well. 2.) The Rock -Badass soundtrack and Hummel is an awesome badguy. Ed Harris is one of my favorite actors. 3.) 300 -It was godlike. Need I say more? |

I'm pretty fickle when it comes to a favorite movie. Right now, I'd have to say it's Mike Judge's Idiocracy. Even though it's stupid beyond belief (Not even just because that's what the movie's about), it's because it's such a huge lampoon of... dumbness.
It's totally inaccurate as far as human evolution will go (in my opinion, anyway), but, I don't think Judge was trying to paint a theatrical philosophical portrait here anyway Basically, the reason I like it now was because it was hilarious while trying to be serious the whole time. To prove how fickle I am though, before last week (which I saw Idiocracy), my favorite movie was The Incredibles, and another few weeks before that, it was Happy Gilmore ____________________ |

I rented Idiocracy to watch with some friends tonight after work. However, I'd really suggest to you the movie "Happiness". Fucking great dark comedy. Mind you, more on the level with Idiocracy is the always grand "Office Space" - fucking greatest. |
