Slashdot · ED · some conservative nutjob's blog claiming to have identified the individual

I heard about this on the radio earlier today, but somehow, not even the possibility of 4chan having a hand in this occured to me - the internet seemed such a large place until now. Needless to say, I actually laughed out loud when finding the article on ED's title page. This is the first time I hear of a 4chan shenanigan in "real life" before reading about it on the internet.

Fox' Bill O'Reilly used the opportunity to call for the FBI cutting the wires at "far left extremist" 4chan again - I do find a staunch conservative like him whining about how "there is no more privacy in this country" somewhat amusing, in the hypocritical way - and it would appear like the person who did it, once again, was careless about their identity. What do you think will the consequences be, and will they stretch out to mootles or all those various semi-related websites that hosted or linked to mirrors of the mails?

Not the first time he calls 4chan that.
In Fox News slang, "far left", "leftist", "liberal" and "evil" seem to be fairly interchangeable terms anyway...

What's so "leftist" or "liberal" about 4chan?

It'd be like calling Fox News Channel "Fair & Balanced Journalism" (hint: None of them are true)

Why is Fox News still allowed to be on the air. They should at least not be allowed to call themselves "news" when it's all bullshit and stupidity.

Maybe someone can sue them for false advertising or something.

PBS carries the only credible news source left on television, save for local, publicly-funded stations.

Personally I find it entertaining to listen to right-wing extremists talk about how terrible the liberal-infidel-unpatriotic-radicals are. It proves there can be extremists for everything...

You're absolutely right, so don't get me wrong, but it's not just isolated to the right. On Digg, for example, where the vast majority of the users lean toward the left, "neo-con" is a catch-all term for "evil," "jerk," etc, even if the true definition of it doesn't apply at all.

I know, I know, Fox News is a national media outlet while Digg users are private persons. Just trying to draw a parallel here.

Well, my point is that, from a European perspective, US political culture is blunt and savage in general.

Semi-related. (Although I think it's more likely O'Reilly's "despicable, slimy, scummy" website in question was meant to be 4chan, not Wikileaks...)

I think the average American - or at least the average American with a modicum of intelligence and perception - feels the same way.

Actually yeah, it was supposed to be Wikileaks. The damn site was down for about a day when the whole thing broke out about Palin's e-mail due to bandwidth issues... My friends and I were worried that the Secret Service arrested Sweden.

**EDIT**
"The person who hacked the account is calling himself anonymous"
lolz
"Anonymous" is a whole group of international whistle blowers... People just don't know what they're talking about anymore.
