To add to my first post - if I was suddenly given the ability to delete posts, I would delete the contents of this thread then take it upon myself to convince staff it didn't happen. You can't give that sort of power to the average user, because it will only cause problems. I misunderstood him, I thought he meant "us" as the general non-empowered users. So if I get it straight then he's complaining about the over-active staff-post-deletions right? Anyway, the reason they aren't deleted by the user that created them is likely that they're just too stubborn or blind to recognize the lack of content in their post. Leaving them would only clog up threads, so it's only natural that they're deleted by someone with the trusted power. EDIT: 0_0 I just realized we actually don't currently have the power to delete our own posts... I'm an idiot.
