I agree that news with commenting would make the board more inactive... and as it is the news concept has already been semi-implemented using the "Points of Required Attention™" box. I like the idea with the five threads with the most recent posts though, because that would draw attention to the board itself.

Also: breaking a long streak of not posting anything. Yay!

Unnecessary as I see it.
There's something close enough already, and adding a box to showcase them would only make things more redundant and web2.0.

Having two things on the site to perform almost exactly the same function (with the original still going more in-depth/doing it better), while their presence really only encourages that users do less to explore the site.
That's what I'm talking about.

I disagree with the way it's laid out now. OC ReMix has a great main page. It's got the songs to the right (which could be hacks for us) the latest few threads posted in/made, tons of content links to the left, etc..

If we're going to do a main page, this is how it should be done.

So you claim that hiding everything behind links and not putting common functionality in easy-to-see, easy-to-access places encourages users to "explore the site"?

I'm not sure you've really thought this through!

The hyperlinks are clearly labeled. I just don't want to see us sacrifice the functionality of several features so we can have a watered-down version available for viewing at once.

No one's suggesting deleting features in order to summarize them elsewhere. Having information be readily accessible would not discourage people from browsing the site. Having a front page with comments on the news would not reduce message board activity. You have no reason to think any of these things. You're just going off on some dumb tangent for no reason. Try to filter your thoughts before they drool out onto your keyboard. God damn.

That's a flattering analogy, I'm not consistent enough to call it drooling. It's more akin to blowing raspberries.

If you can't post more than a word or a sorry-ass collection of pathetic words into what you would call a kindergarten piece of shit sentence, then don't fucking post. You deserve to be beaten with a goddamn Optimus Maximus keyboard.

*Ahem* <niceguy>One-word/one-line posts are against the rules. Please don't do that again.</niceguy>

I still vote to implement a main page. There is a bunch to add, therefore there might need to be someone there to take care of it all. The problems at hand aren't really that bad, and the idea of a main page is realistic. This community is big enough and deserves it.

"Haha, that was good, Xeruss. Good job on that." Had he said that, you certainly would not have complained... Yet the post would not contain any more information. One-sentence posts can be perfectly expressive. While they are generally frowned upon, it is much easier to say nothing with a long, winding passage than it is with a small set of words. Quality is much more important than length.

Meanwhile, you completely exploded at him in a completely unjustified fashion. That's not really acceptable. If you're going to make such rash, hateful statements, why are you staff?

Because I would then explode on you like a bat out of hell if I weren't. But, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to turn this thread around instead of feeding the flame.

You hear that everyone? No more discussion on this matter, it's being taken care of elsewhere. Clean up, post moar, but most importantly, don't be a wrteched hive of scum and villiany troll.

I really don't know what the big deal is with a main page. Maintainability? Easy stuff. Keep a couple of text files for news entries, and perhaps hack entries. Upload a screenshot or two, the IPS, some feeds from the board, random content links, and that's it.

Text files for news entries is a considerably questionable idea. :|

I mean, don't get me wrong. A front page is a really easy thing to do. I hear one is in the works anyway, with magical pretty colours and readability, so it's just a matter of time. Then again, how many times has that been said before ...
