Download

Made by me. Based on the famous "Hymn To Aurora", composed by the demo group Sync.
It's more of a port than a remake.
Gratuitous abuse of the DMC channel abounds.

It's about 4:14 long before it loops.

Hymn to Aurora FTW! I remember this song fondly from my Verge days.

And this NSF sounds excellent!

I like what I hear, but winamp has consistently frozen every time it reaches 00:45.

No crashes for me, I'm using NEZplug 0.9.4.8. Which NSF Winamp plugin are you using?

Impressive. Works like these always make me astonished at how much people are able to milk out of the NES' old cellphone level sound processor.

If I may ask, what means did you make use of to make this?

I used Famitracker.
The original song (and this version too) uses sampled chords being played back at different frequencies. They get played back through the NES's DMC channel. The NES can't resample the chords like a mod player can, so I have separate samples for every chord.

Oh yeah, it also helps that the original composition basically only used 3 channels.

Whoa really cool. Really brings out the grace of sound, like in a way that not even the Crystalis soundtrack did, mainly because of the advanced sound engine. Love the vocals.

I just dled chipamp from ocremix. It credits Nezplug 0.9.4.8, but also NotSoFatso 0.851. I'd presume the latter is to blame.
Either way though, it sounds nice (and functions) in foobar.

Not your typical NSF composition. I'm surprised I didn't see more use of samples than drums on the NES. oO

In a way, I find it intresting what people can manage to squeeze out of NSF's. On the other hand, it's probably way easier today with the tools available today. I sometimes wonder how much work that goes into making music for hand on the NES.

Using Nestopia to play it. Works fine as far I see.
