Posted by Darckthunder I remember this one as "to morrow." same way to get cigarette right: "cigar ette." I always type "every" instead of ever. I did it just now. ____________________ |

If I'm on the laptop, it's very likely that there will be no spaces between words because the space bar is such a finicky little bitch... Have to hit it hard dead-center. It may as well be the same size as all of the other keys, because mashing anything but the center is no good. |

A lot of the time I'll accidentally hit enter on an instant messenger and I always mess up the ending punctuation mark, especially ?, which becomes a >.
I'll often send messages like this because I press enter instead of shift. Also sometimes I'll get things like this.\ |

Posted by Spikeman Heh, I only use the shift key so I don't get errors like that. I do, however, mistakenly strike the enter key instead of the apostrophe key, which is always lovely. |

Now that I think about it, I think I do the same thing..
I normally use the left shift, so it must be the apostrophes that make me do it. Haha. On another note, when I'm actually writing (not typing) I often (as in A LOT) leave out the last letter in "they" or "then" leaving "the". I also sometimes leave out "a"'s or "the"'s and every once in a while I end sentences in the middle. I think it's because I think ahead of how fast I can write. |

My old keyboard's right shift actually had trouble going down because of lack of use, that's how rarely I used rshift. |

It's really aggravating how the apostrophe is so close to Enter on the keyboard, so I'm often prematurely sending messages on AIM when I meant to just type an apostrophe. |

well, what would you prefer to be there? a blank key that does nothing? a hole? I guess you could put a lesser-used character like \ there, but then would the apostrophe go where that key is now? inconvenient. ____________________ |

Sentences begin with uppercase letters.
I think putting the ~ ` key there would be good. The two symbols are never used in English and only rarely used in most programming languages. |

as I said before, the problem with putting an infrequently-used key in an easy-to-reach spot is that you'd have to move a frequently-used key to a hard-to-reach spot. ____________________ |

As I said before, you must hold down the shift key while you are typing the first letter of a sentence.
Actually, I think the keyboard layout is really screwed up. It should be: ABCDEFGHIJ KLMNOPQRS TUVWXYZ with symbols arranged more logically (exclamation point and question mark near each other, etc.). Also, it would be nice if there was a way to enter diacritic marks from the keyboard without changing your keyboard settings. |

Uh, no. Dvorak makes the most sense. Your layout has a lot of finger imbalance. |

Dvorak may be the easiest to type with, but when someone who has never used a computer sits down at a keyboard, they would expect the letters to be in the same order that they are in dictionaries, phone books, and everywhere else all the letters are listed, dating all the way back to the ancient Romans (plus a couple additions between then and now). You don't see dictionaries use an alphabetical order of PHQRLF..., phone books using BEWUXZ..., and encyclopedias use UXHJRE..., do you? It makes no sense for everything except keyboards to use ABCDEF... and end with Z but for keyboards to go QWERTY... ending with M.
Hey, it could be worse. Imagine if the numbers row was 5279310624. |

The Dvorak keyboard is weird, I've always preferred QWERTY keyboards.
I tried a Dvorak keyboard once, and thought it was really awkward. |

Posted by Kernal yes, in the field of design there's a balance that must be struck between how easy something is for a newcomer to figure out, and how easy it is to use when one has gotten used to it. keyboard layouts are biased towards the latter, and for good reason, since most people who use a keyboard in their lives are going to use it quite a lot. an alphabetical layout is hell to use for extended periods of time. Dvorak is arguably easier to use (once mastered) than QWERTY, and everyone agrees it's better for avoiding repetitive stress injury. the downside to Dvorak, as Nyletak illustrates, is that everybody's already used to QWERTY, and it's hard to make a case for the merits of learning a new keyboard layout when you'll have to use QWERTY anyway every time you use someone else's computer. ____________________ |
