Do you get a lot of people calling you but they wanted someone else?

Apparently my phone number used to be the number for for Blue Care Network (some kind of medical insurance thing), so I get a lot of calls from people who are trying to call Blue Care Network. The funny thing is that I moved to this apartment and got this number in May 2006...you'd think people would know their new number after almost a year now!

A couple days ago, I got 4 calls in a two-hour timespan asking for a "Lynn". What, did Lynn post my phone number on the Internet or something?

I don't usually get people calling my house by accident but I do get about 4-5 telemarketer calls a day.

I get a lot of telemarketer calls during the day, mostly between 12:00 and 19:00...

I hardly ever get a wrong number though...

One of my friends had a phone number that was one digit away from a pizza place. I knew someone else whose phone number used to belong to a furniture store that went out of business. Her answering machine message actually stated that this was not Dream Waterbeds, but people left messages for the nonexistent store anyway. Way to fail at paying attention.

I really don't think I've ever gotten any unwanted calls.

I've gotten one or two over the year. It's not that common; sometimes it just happens though.

For several years I got calls asking for Larry, who I learned later owned a local flower business. They finally quit after what must have been his entire customer base getting the update from me.

And I like to tell telemarketers they have the wrong number, and hang up in the confusion.

I do bad things to telemarketers... eventually they stop calling if you mock them enough. I rarely get a wrong number call anymore.

It fun to lead them on like you're going to buy something from them, then change your mind at the last minute.

Either that or try selling them something.

Telemarketers, not people with the wrong number.

Well, we've got a silent phone number and we changed our phone number a few years back. Hence we almost never get wrong numbers and the like. Maybe once a year or so.

I´d like to tell telemarketers that they can shove their offers up their asses but I´m not sure what response I´d get to that. I´m not usually that rude.

I don´t get that many wrong number calls but it happens.

Usually with a telemarketer, I say something really offbeat such as "I have poop in my butt" and then immediately hang up. Of course, most of them sound like recordings anyway...

Actually today, I had a fun experience with a person who called the wrong number. He requested "Bob", but I told him Bob moved out to play poker with dogs. He didn't say anything for about 5 seconds, then he said "....WHAAAAAAAAT?!" in a hugely exaggerated way

I was laughing too hard to respond at this point, and by the time I could breathe again, he had hung up

That's like, the first wrong number I've gotten in over 3 months.

I'd try to talk to them about important contemporary issues in today's government, but they don't seem to appreciate it.

Very rarely.

Unfortunately, when we do,, it's usually a spanish person. Nothing against you, but at least talk English.

I wonder what would happen if I started to play along with the most common wrong numbers and answer the phone with "Blue Care Network, how may I help you?" Then when they ask about insurance plans or whatever I just tell them it'll cost a jillion dollars.

The last mistake was pretty bizarre.

I was trying to go to sleep since I had a test coming up and this man calls me in the middle of a stormy night around 12:30am.

Caller: "Hello, Arnold? Yeah, uh looks like I'll need your help, you see..."
Me: "Ugh, sorry... you have the wrong number..."
Caller: "Oh, okay, my bad..."

About 5 minutes later, the same guy calls...

Caller: "Hello, it's me. Listen, I just got into an accident and I need some help over here so if you can make it to 1-35 near San Pedro..."

Me: "Uhm... you have the wrong number again."

Caller: "Okay, do you know where Arnold is?"

Me: "I don't even know any Arnolds, you got the wrong number..."

Holy crap... I was wondering why he didn't just call 911. That really bothered me.

I suddenly started getting calls for Frank a few months ago. They only let up after I added "if you're looking for Frank, YOU HAVE THE WRONG NUMBER" to my voicemail message.

My parents apparently got a message a few days ago from a gang member or drug dealer. Something along the lines of "meeting in the alley with the drugs" and "bringing a weapon" and "heavy sh*t going down." Unfortunately, the number was blocked, otherwise they would've reported it.

They also used to get LOTS of calls for someone with the same name as my dad, who was in pretty big financial trouble, judging from the people that called and the messages they left. He died of a heart attack or something last year, and you can imagine how crazy the weeks after that were...

Oh, no. Sorry to hear that, BMF. You can take collectors to court for harassment, you know (read up on it some time, hehe)

All I can remember recently is getting a call at 2:30 AM, but I don't know who from. It could've been my sister, as she was in Arizona that day

Some little girl used to call me as I was leaving work like every day. She'd always ask for her mom and I'd have to say, "sorry, sweetie... you got me again." I think it must have been her accidentally swapping 2 of the numbers or something, as I do that from time to time when calling my dad (and get the neighbor across the street, the only other house for several miles. Weird how that worked out, huh?)
